A major, major, MAJOR part of Aaliyah's appeal was grounded in the fact that she was one beautiful woman.

I know that's shallow and superficial, but let's get real. She knew it, her agent knew it, her record label knew it, and the fact that she was gorgeous was absolutely "rolled into the marketing plan." I thought she had a nice voice, but her material? Average at best.

Would Aaliyah have enjoyed a long-term acting career if she were still among us? Maybe not. Look at Britney Spears...her one effort, "Crossroads," went straight into the crapper (along with the rest of her career). Look at Prince. His movies suck MAJOR ASS, but he kept right on making them.

Every performer, at some point, becomes a cash cow. Aaliyah was a performer. 'nuff said.
