Today's College Football Thread
Ohio State and Michigan play today, and apparently that's something of a rivalry (;)). There’s quite a bit less hype than for last year’s game, and it isn’t as important in the national picture as it looked before Illini upset the Buckeyes last week, but the Big 10 title and a trip to the Rose Bowl are still on the line.

There are a few other games between top 25 teams as well … #9 Georgia has to beat #23 Kentucky to keep their conference title hopes alive; #6 West Virginia must win on the road at #22 Cincinnati to keep themselves in both the Big East lead and the national title picture; Boston College (#17) hosts Clemson (#15), with the winner clinching the ACC Atlantic Division title.

A couple of other one-loss teams have potential trap games on the road—My Oklahoma Sooners play Texas Tech in Lubbock, and Missouri has to go to Kansas State, the week before their big rivalry game against Kansas. Two other one-loss teams have slightly easier games this week (LSU plays at Mississippi and Kansas hosts Iowa State), but the way this season has gone you never know. :)

So what game are you looking forward to?

3. Illinois vs. Northwestern
If only Illinois had beaten Michigan (or even Iowa), then they could be playing for the Big 10 championship today. Still, they're playing for pride against an in-state rival, with a New Year's Day Bowl likely on the line for Illinois and bowl eligibility in sight for Northwestern.

4. It's a Michigan and Illinois day for me today.
My alma mater is off until Friday when we play the tea sippers in College Station.

So, since my dad's an Illinoisan, and I lived near Champaign-Urbana for a while, I'm cheering for the Illini. My SO and boss are from Michigan, so I'm cheering for them.

It's coming down to the wire for us... tonight, then two more.

If we can pull that off, and any of the other top-5 flounder, though...
we could be looking at playing for the National Title!

45. ESPN: Nutt's out at Arkansas
ESPN is reporting that Houston Nutt won't be back as head coach at Arkansas next year.

I've generally been a fan of Nutt, but he's been a huge letdown this season. He mishandled the QB situation, and some weird playcalling has probably cost Darren Macfadden the Heisman.

62. No idea yet
This is the first hire of the post-Frank Broyles era. When Nutt was hired ten years ago, Tommy Tuberville and Butch Davis were the other top candidates. Nutt, Tuberville, and Davis were all native Arkansans, and the program was looking for someone with ancestral ties who understood the fan base. I don't think that's going to be an issue this time.

If they follow the Nutt precedent and go for a proven small program head coach, you'd have to think about someone like Sean McDonnell (New Hampshire) or Mark Farley (Northern Iowa), though neither has a record of recruiting in AR, OK, LA, and TX.
