Say what you wnat to about Eric Clapton, but I always did like this song:
Let It Rain

http://youtube.com/watch?v=ifff5NbKQZI&feature=related

The rain is falling through the mist of sorrow that surrounded me.
The sun could never thaw away the the bliss that lays around me.

Let it rain, let it rain,
Let your love rain down on me.
Let it rain, let it rain,
Let it rain, rain, rain.

Her life was like a desert flower burning in the sun.
Until I found the way to love, its harder said than done.

Now I know the secret; there is nothing that I lack.
If I give my love to you, youll surely give it back.

4. I like some Clapton
(for example, his "Wonderful Tonight"); some not so much.

Tastes are individual and should be kept in perspective, proportion (etc).

5. Still and all, his success is amazing for a sixteen year old who
Locked himself inside a closet and didn't come out until he had learned to play the guitar.

Raised by his grandparents as well.

And at one time, back when he was with Cream, he was considered the greatest of guitar players alive (in the rock n roll genre anyway)

His songs do seem to vary in quality - some I cannot stand and others are on my top ten list.

6. Even with artists I have a lot of songs from,
there are other songs that I really don't like. I wouldn't necessarily say it was a quality issue, although I do have some (typically) live recordings where even I can tell that the wrong notes are being played, the correct time isn't being kept, etc.

Which is saying a lot.

10. Thanks for the link --
I saved it to my favorites (cos it is!)
Here are the lyrics:

I don't care if you never come home.
I don't mind if you just
Keep on rowin'away on a distant sea
cuz I don't love you and you don't love me.

You cause a commotion when you come to town

You give 'em a smile and they meet
Having lovers and friends is all good and fine
But I don't like yours and you don't like mine.

La la la ...

I don't care what you do at night oh
I don't care how you get your delights
We'll leave it alone
We'll just let it be
I don't love you and you don't love me.

I got a problem
Can you relate?
I got a woman
Callin' love hate.
We made a vow
we'd always be friends.
How could we know that promises end.

La la la ...

I tried to love you for years upon years
But you refuse to take me for real
It's time you saw what I want you to see
That I'd still love you if you'd just love me.

I got a problem
Can you relate?
I got a woman
Callin' love hate.
We made a vow
we'd always be friends.
How could we know that promises end.

La la la ...

15. I just noticed i had a few of those lyrics wrong...
Edited on Thu Nov-15-07 08:32 PM by Ahpook
from the way i heard them:)

Anyway, i have a couple CD's labeled "Travel Music" I always take when i am on a road trip. Clapton makes a few appearances on them. 13th Floor Elevators, Hendrix and others just help those miles click away nicely.

I tend to get a bit itchy after a couple hours in a car. I was the kid in the backseat asking my father every few minutes "We There Yet?" :)

On edit: In my older age i learned to appreciate travel. Seeing new things, new folks.. it can be nice. This tune makes me stop and say hello:)

9. I LOVE Clapton!!! Layla:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAlkN-r49pc

Title: Eric Clapton - Layla lyrics

What'll you do when you get lonely
And nobody's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long.
You know it's just your foolish pride.

Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.

Chorus

Let's make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don't say we'll never find a way
And tell me all my love's in vain.

Chorus

13. Bell Bottom Blues
The soaring Stratocaster on the live cut from 24 Nights is one of the most moving guitar solos in all of rock.

Clapton is God.

That is all.
