Soy milk drinkers - what is your favorite brand/flavor.
I am really trying limit our dairy intake, and am finding it difficult to totally switch over.

3. Organic Valley, VitaSoy and Silk, in that order.
Try almond milk too. It's really, really good. Surprisingly enough, so is hemp milk. Very creamy.

5. Health food store.
They probably have it at Mother's. The brand I've had is Living Harvest. The chocolate flavor was really, really good.

6. Cool!
There is a Mother's store about 5 miles from me. I did not even know it was there (in a weird location).

8. I like Almond Breeze

All the (many) soy milks that I've tried are waaaay too sugary, and taste gross.

10. The two I've bought are
Edited on Fri Nov-09-07 05:50 AM by hippywife
8th Continent and Silk. 8th Continent is better tasting for just drinking from the glass since it's a little sweeter. Silk is fine for putting on cereals and in baking/cooking.

On edit: My suggestion is to switch them over gradually. Use it for breakfast cereal and cooking. It's easier to start drinking it once you have become somewhat used to.

15. Silk Plain
Sometimes I'm curious about the fancier stuff, but I'm a creture of habit and usually just shop at the Rainbow which is located halfway between work and home. I never really did like milk as a beverage, so going Soy wasn't an adjustmen in that sense, and it seems to work great in recipes. I just discovered it makes garlic mashed potatoes to DIE for. :hi:

16. Taking into cost and availability, Silk is quite good.
I even like the house brands that the supermarket sells. I don't use it as a beverage, though. Cooking, cereal, etc only, so keep that in mind.

You might also want to experiment with rice/almond/hemp "milk" too.

Also, in limiting dairy, I recommend (highly!) the following:

Ice cream: Soy Delicious. You'll never miss the dairy based stuff. Honest.

Butter: Earth Balance

Sour Cream: Tofutti makes a "Better Than Sour Cream" which is awesome. I never liked sour cream before having this stuff.

18. Hang on a second, Soy Ice Cream?
I'm intrigued, thaks for the tip. Are there any good Vegan cheeses available?

With cheese and ice cream I've pretty much just been doing without, but hey, iof there are alternatives that stack up as well as soy milk, count me in.

21. There are many good vegan cheeses, but
when it comes to melting, they all suck. There's allegedly one that does melt well now, but I've been burned all to often with that promise.

The Soy Delicious ice cream, seriously...awesome. Pricey, but awesome.

17. Silk Very Vanilla
I've stopped eating sugar cereal because the vanilla flavor makes nonsugar cereal taste good. Right now I'm eating multigrain Cheerios which has a slightly sweet taste already.

26. Soy Slender made by Westsoy.
The chocolate flavor is to DIE for and it is lower in carbs because it is sweetened with splenda. You do want to be careful with some of the soy milks because they can be pretty high in fat and carbs. It sounds so healthy to be drinking soy--until you look at some of those labels!

If you don't do sweeteners Westsoy makes several other varieties that I think are incredibly good (but they do have a higher carb count.)

Product info here:

http://www.westsoy.biz/products/index.php

I also suggest you check out the almond and rice milks. They have a different taste and are quite nice.

28. Costco's Kirkland brand.
Sold by the case of shelf-stable quarts. Used to be Silk shelf-stable, but they switched it to a Kirkland brand a couple of years ago. Tastes the same.
