Do cats develop fetishes?
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 11:06 AM by ocelot
One of mine, Jeoffry the Incredibly Loud Tabby, hes developed a weird fixation on a pair of fuzzy red socks -- he takes them and carries them around with him. I find them everywhere, even after I put them away. Somehow he figured out where I keep them (probably watched me put away laundry), so every day I find the sock drawer open, socks scattered all over the floor, and the prized Fuzzy Red Socks somewhere else, usually in the kitchen near the cat food bowls. Just now he trotted into the living room carrying the ball of Fuzzy Red Socks. And then the other cat, Milo, picked them up and dropped them at my feet. I think he's involved, somehow.

The only time the Fuzzy Red Socks are safe is when I am wearing them.

Cats....

3. When I was younger my mother's cat was wild about barbie clothes.
She'd steal them from my sister and hide them in the bottom of a closet in a pile and lay down on all of them.

6. I had a cat years ago who
collected Darjeeling teabag wrappers. Just Darjeeling. She would get them out of the trash and hide them. I'd find them in my shoes or under the couch or behind the dresser. She was entirely normal in every other cat way.

7. Yes, they can, and do!
Guy, my Maine Coon absolutely loves dirty underwear. That's all I'm going to say, because it's a strange one, to say the least.

8. Yes
my roommate's old cat used to drag her nightgowns around the house. One of my guys currently can't stand to see any liquid placed on the coffee-table. He'll knock the cup over.

My other guy sucks my earlobe regularly.

9. I may have mentioned Mr. Mickey's before here...
He licks hand soap bars in the bathroom. They takek on shapes that I should include here (I need advice how to include my own jpegs like people here often do).

Also, MM likes dark greens. His sister Mallory does too. Yes, I named them after Mickey and Mallory Knox (Natural Born Killers)

Your socks reminded me of that cat in my comic section (the strip is called "Mutts") who goes after and loves her "little pink sock"!

10. Oh, of course
Fetishes come and go; right now our alpha male is obsessed with the bundle of dried thyme hanging from the hearth in the kitchen. I keep telling him it's not catnip, but does he listen? NoooOOOoooo! So when he's not peeing on the side of the (thank the gods leather=easy cleaning) couch to deter any outdoor cats that might wander by the front windows (:wtf:), he's leaping on the kitchen island and pulling down thyme, one sprig at a time. He doesn't eat it, BTW. Just knocks it around till I find it under a piece of furniture where he couldn't reach to retrieve it. Then he goes and gets another one.

Our neurotic part-Persian runt female is mad about the desk lamp by DH's computer. Must ... bake ... while ... napping ... Or she's lying on the heating vent in the dining room, which results in a lovely textured wall treatment above it: black cat hair on yellow-gold paint.

For the record, the other female, part-Siamese, part-airhead, has decided just recently that every lap is for sitting, even if you're on the toilet. She now stalks us, and if we sit for even a nanosecond, she's on you.

11. Definitely.
Kyra is obsessed with her cat bed. It's really soft and fuzzy...and she apparently has mistaken it for her mama cat because she LOVES to suck on it (like she's nursing) while kneading her paws relentlessly. Granted, she was taken away from mama cat when she was about 3 weeks old, so she likely has some oral fixation issues...but yeah...definitely a fetish at this point.

Two of my friends both have cats that drag a blanky around the house like Linus from Peanuts. The amusing thing is that the blankies are FAR larger than the cats...but that doesn't deter them in the slightest.

12. Let each cat have a sock
I had a cat who had a thing for a blue fuzzy beret I had. I just couldn't wear it anymore because I kept thinking of him sucking and licking it. It became his little companion.

My older cat, Bear, now likes to play with my Sea Band wristband (I use it to help prevent motion sickness when I travel). He even sleeps with it. Guess I'll have to buy another pair before my next trip!

14. don't know i'd call this is a fetish, but my mia falls in love with boys
Edited on Sun Nov-04-07 12:19 PM by kagehime
when i was living with my ex, she would hunt down his robe or other dirty laundry and not just lay on it, but rub herself all over it. from time to time, she'd hook part of the garment with her claws and drag it over her face. and mia hates other people and will hide in my room until any guests leave.

i'm 'sitting' for the girls while my friend is studying in germany (she's been gone two years and i don't know when she's coming back, but that's a different story), but my friend told me that mia did the same with one of her old boyfriends. then, when the two of them broke up, mia sulked and glared at my friend for days.

she is such an odd duck :D

my ex's (neutered) male also developed a crush, shall we say, on my red fuzzy slippers. i had to keep them on a shelf so he wouldn't defile them x(

15. Male cats do tend to "self gratify."
I am amazed at how "active" neutered male cats can be when it comes to self gratification. Horny little buggers.

Chaucer has been really hooked on a fake hairpiece that my daughter got at a "makeover party" last summer. He LOVES that thing and will carry it around. He likes to chew her actual hair, too, so maybe it is a continuation of that--I dunno. I took it away from him and put it up on a shelf and he managed (somehow!) to get it back down within a day or two. The good news is that it looks so NASTY now I doubt she will be wanting to wear it anytime soon.

16. My cat is obsessive compulsive
he does the same thing every night at 2 a.m......goes to the bathroom, knocks the glass over into the sink, jumps off the vanity, goes into the room and climbs on the dresser, walks across the table with plants on it, jumps on the tv on the chest of drawers (he is nearly by the ceiling then)...then he jumps off the tv, there is a wicker basket with change in it, he picks up a coin and drops it to the floor, then another, then another, until I am forced to get up, he jumps off the chest of drawers when I am 2 feet away and moves on to the living room. he does this every single night aargh...I can't shut the door at night, because he will chew the carpet from under the door...

17. I have a cat who likes to lick walls
:eyes:

My late cat Lizzie liked to hunt down bottle caps & hoard them. She also liked to hunt down dirty socks & walk around the house with them in her mouth while she yowled.

Cats.

18. my cat steals all my ponytail ties and barrettes...
He especially likes to snatch them off the table and run off with them when I'm trying to get ready. Probably his way of getting attention.

But then he keeps them and carries them around with him. I've found them later, hidden under the covers of my bed.

Also, he likes to seize a mouthful of my hair and pull on it. That hurts.

20. one of ours had a thing for the little combs and brushes that came with "My Little Pony " toys
we would find them all over the house, and those things HURT when you step on them with bare feet. He also liked rabbits foot keychains.

Another cat had a thing for corn on the cob and would stash them behind furniture, under beds.

CatZilla likes to kiss us on the mouth. Sandpaper kitty licks on the lips, he also likes to groom our hair.
