Whatever happened to hash?
(Inspired by another thread).....I never hear anything about hash any more. What's up with that? That was a drug of choice in the 70's.

3. I always thought it was a very different
buzz than a marijuana buzz. Those were the good old days.

30. I've been straight for a few decades now,
but I have fond memories of hashish.

Yes, hash was a different buzz than "grass." It was somehow a richer experience on many levels.

9. ProzacNation (DUer) is my sister in law.
I KNOW for a fact she did not 'do in' hash. She would search to the ends of the earth for it if she were not a 'stuck at home' soccer mom.

Pls - Don't disparage ProzacNation!!!!

6. It is very common in Europe
A few euros will get you a nice chunk of Lebanese blond at any decent cafe in Holland. Tons of Moroccan hash can be found in Spain real cheap.

But what do I know? :D

10. Lots of it here in northern California..
It's a by-product of the harvesting and manicuring process. You scrape it off your fingers and tools. Some folks use an ice water and silk screen mesh process to make really good hash out of the shake. :hippie:

17. What a beautiful bud! Purple Afghanistan??
We grew some 'purple ghanni' out in the Everglades back in the 80's. It was *THE* best bud I've ever smoked, bar none. When you took a toke, the flavor would swirl around your mouth and make you slobber (seriously). I watched my buddy turn down $125 for a 1/4 oz.

Those were the days...

13. The CIA decided it was easier to smuggle Coke & China White
than it is to waste their time transporting hash.

Coke and China White are more profitable as well. It can be step on several times to increase the weight, hard to accomplish with hash.

18. Long ago, I crossed the Iran border into Afghanistan.
This was before Brzezinski decided to turn that poor country into a slaughterhouse, created the Taliban, etc. The customs office was closed so I put up my tent and went into the teahouse across the road. Through some form of communication, neither English nor Farsi, I obtained a palm sized discus of black hashish which I understood, somehow, to have been formed with the help of a bit of opium oil. One US dollar.

(I had dumped the hash purchased a bit earlier in Amsterdam in a toilet on the Romania-Bulgaria border after being detained because of some irregularity in my passport stamps, so I was happy. And I figured if it was all some plot to lock me away they didn't really need to go through such a dance.)

Anyway, it was was an other-worldly high that words won't describe. Later in Herat I heard the metal workers banging their hammers throughout the night (daytime was too hot to work). I knew with absolute certainty that they were doing an improv percussion symphony that would make Mahler envious. Transcendent music. A natural harmony and a celebration of life and honest work.

29. Opiated black hash.....
with the little flecks of white powder throughout it. My drug of choice during the 60's, 70's and 80's. Then I became a "responsible" adult. :) Those were the days. That's as close as I've ever come to pure opiate use. I always knew I'd like it too much and develop an extremely bad habit should I ever go any further in that direction. I'm prone to excess.
But that high......that melt into the couch, BE the couch high. That dream inducing, mellow, full body high. Sigh..... what I wouldn't give for one more gram, just for old time's sake.
Those were the days. :hippie: Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

24. My theory is that it disappeared when marijuana became a domestic product
It no longer makes sense to risk import of hashish, when cocaine yields a higher profit per lb. It doesn't give off a tell tale aroma either and compresses nicely.

I bet 95% of all weed purchased is now grown within 20 miles of one's home.

28. I wish I knew!
You didn't bogart it all, did you?

If I could find the glasses we used to do it under, I think I'd lick 'em right about now!

We used to buy ours from a dude named "Worm" over in the off-campus apartments. He was a friend of a fraternity brother of mine from Joisey who, when stoned, would always answer "Wroooong! Wrong ansuh!"

Hmmm. Doesn't look so funny now.

But with some of Worm's hash? Hilarious!

and easier to obtain, that hashish is not as popular here

I'm sure in the middle east it is still the THC of choice
