I'm not a New Yorker; my roommate is. We were arguing over what city (in the United States), OUTSIDE of the NY metro area, would be the best place for someone from New York to live.
So what do you guys think? I'd guess the obvious candidates (taken from large US cities) would be Boston, Philadelphia, DC, Baltimore, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Houston.
I voted for Boston and Chicago. Boston because it's got a very urban feel to it (moreso than probably almost anywhere else) while still maintaining a clear East Coast sensibility.
Chicago because, I honestly feel that of the major US cities, Chicago and New York are in many ways the most similar. Chicago has very much its own character, but it has a very cosmopolitan, diverse, urban feel which cultural and culinary attractions that equal New York.
He agreed with me on that one but totally rejected me on Chicago (he hasn't been to Chicago). He insisted that yes, Chicago was a major city but that it was "boring" and too "Midwestern."
So what do you guys vote?
