Son of a...
Okay, so I've been planning for the last week or so to go live with my grandparents and help them out around the house, especially my grandfather since he just had some surgery and isn't really able to be mobile on his own. So first I see if I can transfer my job to one up there... no dice. They only allows transfers for educational reasons.

Then, when I'm about to hand in my two weeks notice, finally somebody gets around to telling me that we have a 'family medical leave' thing. So I don't have to quit, I can just go on indefinate hiatus. Great. So I go talk to my supervisor. He gives me a phone number to call for the HR department.

I call it... and the line is ridiculously busy. So busy that out of the 7 or so times that I called, I was only able to get through to an answering machine ONCE.

And I get no call back.

So I look at this piece of paper and think to myself... 'hmm... that 6 on the end, the one that looks just like the other two sixes in this number is a little sloppy... maybe that's a zero. Even though it looks nothing like the other two zeros in that number. Eh, what the hell, I'll try it.'

Turns out it was a 0. Even though it looked like a 6. And I showed it to my roommate, he thought it was a 6 too. So I'm not crazy.

Anyhow, I finally get ahold of who I need to get ahold of. They tell me to email my request to someone. I email it, and go to sleep.

I wake up this afternoon to find a reply in my inbox. Cool, that was fast...

nope. Just somebody writing me back to tell me I sent my email to the wrong person. And the HR department is closed now so I can't call them. And I think they're closed over the weekend too, so I won't be able to call them until MONDAY.

So first thing I'll do tonight at work will be to ask if the HR department is open on Saturdays. If it isn't, then my second thing will be to turn in my 2 weeks notice. Because they need me up there ASAP, and I can't waste my time screwing around with this crap.

3. What a terrific grandson you are, DT!
Pretty cool that you're going to help your grandparents out. Hope it all works out for you, and them, as well!

6. It really just seemed to work out the best
If you drew a venn diagram of the family members who were physically capable of helping out, and had the easiest time dropping everything and going up there, it was just l'il old me inbetween those two circles. :)

And I've been looking for whatever excuse I can to get out of this humid swampland anyway. I wish it was a different reason, but I'll take it anyway. And I've been trying to get back in school, and my grandma is an english teacher up there. So odds are pretty good that I'll be able to find a way to get back into school once I'm there. So not only am I the most free to go up there, but I've got the most to gain by doing so.

4. You can't wait until Monday, early AM?
Call in right before they open, tie up the line, and get the family med leave.

It's wonderful you want to be there now to help
out your g-parents, but make sure you're taken care of, too.

Once he knew who it was I was s'posed to email, he looked it up for me.

And I'll write back to the wrong one to thank them for letting me know it was the wrong one, otherwise I woulda been sitting around waiting for a response to an email that wasn't recieved. :)
