Ten Things You Can Do Right Now to Love Your Body (NOT A SEX THREAD)
1. Make the radical choice to commit to healing your relationship with your body.

2. Never diet. Never ever. It is a $31 billion industry that fails 95% of the time. That's just stupid.

3. Reconnect with your authentic hungers. When are you hungry? When are you full? What are you hungry for?

4. Move in ways (African dance, yoga, running, sex...) that make you feel happy instead of adhering to strict fitness regimens.

5. Add a compassionate voice to the chorus in your head.

6. Don't spend money on products made by companies that make you feel inadequate. Duh.

7. Stop hanging out with toxic people that make you feel bad about yourself.

8. Change conversations about weight to conversations about wellbeing.

9. Nominate someone for the REAL Hot 100.

10. Redefine your notion of success to include your own wellness--including joy, fulfillment, resilience, and self-love.

1. What a wonderful post.
:yourock:

Also: forget the scales - go by what you feel like, how your clothes fit. Obsessing about numbers is stressful, and stress doesn't help anybody.

2. I live near LA
Ground zero for body-insanity. Eating disorder recovery centers and therapists do a brisk trade, and still don't reach all the people who need help.

9. Hey, is it that shop on State Street?
I wandered in there last year only to encounter a friend donning full Rob Roy Scottish gear!

3. Number 10 is the only thing we really need.
The rest follow from that (except number 9 -- that one I don't understand at all.)

12. Great post!
Obsessing about numbers and size is a complete waste of energy. I'm so much happier doing things I enjoy. It's easy to get to a point that anyone who tries to give you "advice" to look better just makes you laugh. How will their approval truly make you happy?

can make you look WORSE.

Healthy is sexy.

19. Healthy is "fat" for our current standard
"Sexy" is sickly with protruding bones.

Reminds me of a day I was at the gym lifting and some random guy says to me that instead of doing heavier ab exercises I should do lots of reps of little weight to get a small waist "since that's what you want." I responded "I really don't care what size my waist is." He looked stunned and said "Are you sure?" What an ass!

23. "Stop hanging out with toxic people"
Edited on Fri Oct-19-07 11:59 PM by otherlander
I don't hang out with them. They're just there. Demonic creatures with bleached hair and contorted faces with poorly-applied eyeliner and mouths which alternately laugh and vomit. They are primarily cannibalistic in nature, but have become more technologically advanced recently. They sit in the seats of fighter jets which are equipped with heat-seeking bombs able to detect the slightest scrap of joy from over fifty yards away, lock onto its trajectory, and detonate in an explosion of unintelligible noises at a pitch known to cause bleeding of the inner ear. Then they return to sit with the boys who stop making jokes about them as they see them approaching, because if the demonic bleached-haired creatures heard what was being said about them behind their backs, they might no longer allow said boys to fuck them. Then we are all herded into sociology class, where they reveal their astounding intelligence in a discussion of countercultures throughout the twentieth century by calling William Fucking Burroughs an emo.
JUST FOR THAT YOU'LL ALL WIND UP SHOT DEAD LIKE JOAN!

But anyway... how was your day? ^_^
