4. I got that too
there was so much traffic of people registering our server shit itself

none of this would have happened if our CFO wasn't a stupid cheap republican windbag with no sense of planning and upfront costs. It's always "we'll deal with it if/when it happens"

5. I'd feel for ya
if I wasn't often on the receiving end of tech support stupidity, like the techie who said he'd email me the instructions for entering our new ISPs when I called him to say we couldn't get on to either the internet or intranet at the office. :eyes: Hello? Can't use the fax machine?

:P

6. we only say we'll email you something because we don't want to actually talk to you
well, this isn't fully true. some people call up, and i'll actually "happily" talk to them, but that's because they acknowledge they don't know shit, and really do need help

it's the "hang on, let me put you on with my husband, he's an expert" types who infuriate, especially when the "expert" is even more clueless

are you getting all this, mainegreen?

8. LOL Havocdad had similar situation but with honchos, not tech support. Agency system seriously sick
so they CALLED & FAXED everyone and told them DO NOT USE EMAIL UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Weeks went by. Finally, at an area meeting, the honchos demanded to know why nobody was emailing reports that were overdue.

'We can't use the email' was the response

BUT IT HAS BEEN FIXED! Didn't you get the email telling you all that?

:banghead:

Yep, that's why honchos get the big bucks

7. People who call tech support scare the fuck out of me.
I break out in a cold sweat whenever I have to deal with them.

9. I don't call them, ever
I'll spend hours fixing something myself before actually picking up the phone. I don't want to deal with them, they don't want to deal with me, and there's a 99% chance someone has already ran into my problem and posted the solution on the Internet. :)

10. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than call them
I got into a fight with comcast a few months ago because they wanted me to uninstall everything in order to fix their problem.

11. I just got into a fight with Comcast 10 minutes ago
they wanted to charge me 4 bucks extra each month to not be listed in the 411 logs, and ANOTHER 8 bucks a month to not be listed in the actual phone book

I told the guy I was sorry I called in the first, and hung up

that's just ridiculous

13. Grrrr, I despise them.
I live at the end of a cul-de-sac so when I first moved in here, my internet service was sloooooooow. I call them up and they tell me to clean out my cache, like I'm an idiot and don't know how todo that. We argued over that for 10 minutes. Then the guy tells me to uninstall some stuff--he'd walk me through it. Fuck you. I told him to pull the service from people who aren't here for the summer to speed up my line or else, else meaning I go back to Verizon. Miraculously, my speed sped up by the next day.

I hear the sneer in their voice when they answer the call. They suck.

14. I was helping a woman set up an HD DVR yesterday
She called in for help. Setting up dvrs is no more difficult than regular cable boxes. She kept yapping about a cord with two prongs at the end. She couldnt' figure out what to do with it.

Turns out she was talking about the power cord!

Or that nifty retractable drink tray with "52x" on the front of it...

Or, she could have plugged the power strip into itself!

18. Sometimes I wonder if these people are lonely
If tech support happens to be a toll free number, they call even when it has nothing to do with your productor service. Or maybe some people are just too stupid to use technology...

But he could still be lonely. He probably saw those pics of you and Matcom and wants some consensual play but is too shy to come out and say so.
Us'n here in the flyovers ain't got none of them thar dunjins like'n you folks 'n in the east. The sheep haven't learned to be doms or switches...

21. Actually, it's quite difficult to play a half-step off for an entire song.
The tendency is to want to slide the pitch, and accidentally play in tune. Happens a lot in modern music (cf. Penderecki, Crumb, etc.) that has a lot of dissonance and parts playing halfsteps apart.

How she fought that tendency to accidentally slip into tune amazes me.

(I am serious about the modern music stuff, though)
