Anyone else have the miserable cold that's going around?
My son had it and now I do. Ick. I have always thought that the colds kids bring home from school are THE WORST. :(

It seems to me that colds were less annoying when I was younger - now I seem to have less tolerance for em. I suppose it's a function of age.

1. I think the wife does
She has been really sick of late, more so than usual. Throwing up and weak.

4. have you noticed that colds seem to be more like the flu these days?
or are there just so many varieties of cold virus that they morph into cold-flu?

It's odd. I seem to remember when I was younger that colds were one type of animal, but now they seem so varied.

Must be the antihistamines talking... ;)

Hope your wife feels better, too.

she is wore out a lot and sick, which can mean her Parkinson's is flaring up as it does or she has something else.

my son seems to be pretty much over his - he missed 2 days of school.

5. I came down with something today
So far it hasn't been bad but I fear it may be worse tomorrow. Of course there's never a good time to be sick, but right now is especially inconvenient.

8. my mom always says it's the change in the weather that prompts these things
but I thought that was a myth.

It was 90 here one week, and now it's in the 60s with lows in the 40s at night.

All I know is that the gym where my son takes classes is full of little kids and kid concentrated germs seem to be the worst, at least at my house. I refer to any illness that my son brings home from school, etc. as "The Plague" ;)

9. It's always like this when I go back to school
Has been since I was a kid, and then while I was in college. I hoped to avoid it living off campus this year, but I still have to take crowded public transport to school and on Thursday a couple of my classmates were sick, so... here I am. Hopefully this won't get any worse. Right now it's just a sore throat and a little runny nose action. The latter makes me think things might not be bad after all because usually that comes last. Hopefully I've skipped right over the congestion stage. It's been manageable today but I just feel cruddy and lethargic :(

I explained to my kid that colds are just a fact of life. He was not thrilled to hear it! ;)

12. Caught it from an idiot
Group of folks I know have either breakfast or lunch together every Saturday. Doctor's wife brought her toddler to lunch. They were both sick and running a temperature. I had a scratchy throat late Monday. Felt awful by Tuesday. Took a little over a week to recover. I thought the woman was spoiled and selfish before this so this was just further confirmation of that general impression.....

and turn into all kinds of ugly?

I have been so sick! I think it's the flu -- we have all had it -- I now have a lung infection and am on day 2 of antibiotics....

15. Yeah, there's been one cold/flu thing running around my work lately.
And it's a ridiculously long-lasting one. 2+ weeks for most people. At first I just assumed its because most of them are smokers... then I got it, and it lasted 2+ weeks for me too. :(

18. I had it a few weeks ago but
it's still lingering. I feel fine but I still have the sniffles and some congestion. I do feel so much better but it's not completely gone yet.

20. Recently, I got what at first was a very sore throat, and within 2 days the doc said I had pneumonia
The sore throat was first, followed almost immediately by chills and a fever. I NEVER get fevers, so I knew something was very wrong, not to mention I felt like dog poop. My lungs then took the next hit, and I would have fits of horrible coughing and had difficulty catching my breath.

By the third day, I called my doctor first thing in the morning and saw her that afternoon. She said my lungs sounded like paper. I was put on antibiotics and guifenesen cough medicine.

My daughter works at a daycare center and she brought it home to me. At the time, my daughter was not exibiting symptoms.

22. had it week before last, it was 10 days before I felt back to normal

and I missed 5 days of work. Stupid CRUD.

It is most definitely going around in North TExas. We are in a very heavy ragweed season this year and I at first thought the sore throat was just that, then the wheezeing hit. I got very aggressive with Mucinex and Claritin and thus avoided bronchitis but some sort of opportunistic viral thing snuck in there and laid me OUT. I had chills and sweats but never registered the temperature on the thermometer. Got up every day thinking today I can go back to work , but after breakfast and shower I was so wiped out, I'd just call in sick and go back to bed for 3 hours. Routine was sweat, chill, ache, hot bath, nap. Repeated several times daily. Nice triangle from bed to computer to tv chair with side trips to bathroom and kitchen.

Glad to be mended, finally.

My allergist friend said that a big pollen storm can give you every symptom of flu except the high fever and a secondary can then pop in and put you down fast; at least I did not get pneumonia this time.
