Mmmmm...Vicodin!
I spent the wee hours of the morning in the emergency room.

No worries, it's just a kidney stone, which I've dealt with before and the CAT Scan assured us that it will pass on its own, given time.

I've spent the rest of the day completely doped up on Vicodin...and whatever they shot into my IV. Needless to say, I'm feeling NO pain.

Though having to teach while under the influence tomorrow could be REALLY interesting! In fact, having to stay awake long enough to teach a 2 hour class will be somewhat difficult. Oy.

Among the things I learned today: the staff at the Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank are FABULOUS. Very kind, helpful, personable, and they actually listened to me. And they had me in and out (tests and results included) in about 5 hours.

1. I hope the stone passes quickly..
I have a relative who has had that problem several times and he told me it was the most painful thing he ever had (and he had many medical issues).
Get well soon (and off of that vicodin asap too!)

4. Thanks!
Yeah, it's definitely some of the worst pain I've ever experienced. But this is kidney stone #10-ish. I'm not entirely sure, I've lost track! I'm lucky enough to have a genetic predisposition. Yay me.

I should be back to my normal, drug-free self within a few days! Trust me, I'm well aware of the dangers of the Vicodin...my dad's a pharmacist. I still have half a bottle of the stuff from the last time...December 2005! ;)

2. You got vicodin?
I just got percocet.

I still have some...you know...just in case.

Hope it passes as painlessly as possible.

3. Given the choice, I'd rather have the percocet.
Vicodin gives me a headache.

6. Oh, everything's great.
But tomorrow is another day. :D

Plus, I'm going back to Washington tomorrow - the scene of the pain (until I got home and had MORE pain).

I completely forgot about your kidney stone episode. Uuuuugh.

Have fun in Washington...and think very non-stony thoughts.

8. Hey!
Hang in there! It's tough, but I worked with students in a Library (and even had to do some shelving) while taking Vicodin, after a serious car wreck many years ago.

Oh, btw, never a good idea to admit to a doctor when/if you mix Vicodin with alcohol (it was just one glass of wine)! I thought the doc's eyes were going to pop out of his head (hey, he asked what worked!). Needless to say, they don't prescribe that for me anymore.

Hope you feel better soon!

10. Hahaha
I was nervous about telling the doc that I'd already taken Vicodin before I got to the hospital! I was thinking, "omg, they're going to think I'm drug shopping, and they're not going to give me ANYTHING!"

But when I refused the narcotic (don't remember what it was) they offered to shoot into my IV, I guess they figured I was legit. ;)

20. Can't imagine what the stuff is like.
Some years ago I was prescribed tylenol with codeine when I had shingles; that alone had me cruising somewhere near Betelgeuse. :silly: :wtf:

16. Oh my gosh!
I'll take a kidney stone over an infected root canal ANY DAY.

Vicodin works for me...I've had numerous kidney stones and always use it. But then again, I'm a pain pill sissy! ;)

18. Hey Peggy!
Indeed...vicodin.

I'm a pro at this kidney stone thing, unfortunately. I think this is about stone #10. I've lost count. Normally, I don't even go to the doc, but I was out of pain meds, and that just wasn't going to work!

Plus, I got a CAT Scan, so I know it's only one stone, and it's small enough to pass without issue.

I'm sure I'll be fine in a few days. Until then...I'll be high as a kite, a bit sore, and very tired...but nothing I can't handle!

And yeah...tomorrow? Should be amusing. ;)
