CD music/DVD question...
Hope this isn't too dumb of a question, but if I have a dvd player that plays dvds and cd, can I record music on the dvds and get them to play right? Or does it have to be a cd?

Thanks

1. A player does not record music. You need a burner.

2. I have a dvd burner...
so if I use it to burn songs to a dvd, will that play the songs correctly on the dvd/cd player?

3. Oh, I see.
My DVD burner is also a CD burner, in my laptop. I think most of them are.

They should both play in a DVD/CD player.

4. you mean MP3 files recorded to DVD?
Edited on Mon Oct-08-07 12:59 PM by gmoney
good question...

Lots of things will play MP3 files recorded to CD, but I've never heard about DVD.

Try it and let us know how it goes. The worst that can happen is you'll get a read error and maybe end up with a burned disc you won't use.

5. Or Wav or WMA...
Yes, that's what I'm wondering - if I burn music files to a dvd, then will it play on a dvd/cd player, just like wav, mp3 or wma files will play.

This way it would be 4.7 gig of music instead on one cd rather than 8 or so.

6. From what I've seen, it depends upon the particular machine you have.
Some will view the DATA on a DVD, recognize it as MP3 music,
and play it accordingly.
Others will just recognize that the disk is a DVD, and do nothing
when it doesn't find any files in a "movie" format.

Data is data; it really just depends upon how many possibilities
the machine's programmers prepared it to handle.

Just burn some MP3's onto a DVD, and see what happens when
you put it in. It's the only way to know for sure.

If that doesn't work, and you REALLY need it to, there are
some more complicated ways to make it happen.
