1. Johnny or Bill
I can't choose. Almost got into a fist fight a work when I said I was glad Johnny got a nod -- fellow worker said "he is a nutcase and unamerican, he always trashes this country". To which I responded, he did that once and it was regarding the war. Was he wrong?. That shut them up.

2. That's a dumb reason for him not to get a nod
Some people can be too stupid for words. That said, I don't think he should've been nominated because it simply wasn't an Oscar-worthy performance. I would have rather seen Jack get it instead, or maybe Jeff Bridges for Seabiscuit.

3. Pauly Shore or Rob Schneider. They're both cinematic geniuses.

4. For once..
we have the opportunity to see a COMEDIAN get recognition. I'm so sick and tired of these crappy/sappy/whiny/cookie-cutter/snooty/... dramas winning everything; comedy is equally as demanding of skill, and equally as important to the world of acting.

5. Murray
most memorable and enjoyable performance of the year. Showed a side of Murray (who I have ALWAYS respected) I wasn't sure was there. Give it to the man for the years of joy he brought us in straight comedy. Great acting. Shame his female lead, I can't think if her name, didn't also get a nomination.

6. Sean Penn's performance in Mystic River
was one of the most emotionally wrenching and CONVINCING things I've ever seen on the screen. The nomination was well-deserved, and a win for Sean is LONG overdue.

7. Sean Penn should win the Oscar
I haven't seen any of the other nominees besides Jude Law but Sean was amazing. I think it'll be Sean or Bill. I hope Sean's political views don't turn off too many voters. Like it was said, Sean is overdue.

8. Yes. He was excellent in Mystic River.
I hope Tim Robbins gets Best Supporting Actor for that film too. I've never seen a Robbins performance like that.

9. For the life of me, I can't figure out ...
WHY Depp was nominated ?!?!?

That movie was total cornball !
Granted, he's about the hottest thing walkin' but ... an Oscar ?

Don't think so.

10. The only one I haven't seen is Cold Mountain
I would say of the other four, Sean Penn was the best. That guy just BREATHES acting; he is absolutely wonderful. And I just saw him in 21 grams. While I thought it was a dreadfully grim movie and I would hesitate to recommend it, again Sean was just amazing.
