If you can find the right stuff to dress up as Laxshmi, you could give out chocolate coins whereever you go. (they come wrapped in gold foil to look like gold coins.)

You'd be dressed up, and giving away candy. You can't get any more appropriate than that. :)

People might not get it though. People might think you're just dressed in a red sari and not really understand that it's a costume. I don't know if the people who do get it would be offended or not?
