For me it's 'Howard the Duck'. I admit it...I like it. Got it on DVD, too. I've never met another person who likes it. Anyone else got a movie nobody else likes but you?

I *love* that movie!!! I haven't seen it in years though. It was the first time I remember seeing Whoopi Goldberg on the big screen (I didn't see "The Color Purple" until I was an adult), and I fell in love with her immediately.

I can't think of one that I like that no one else does. I'm better at thinking of one I don't like that everyone else did: Pulp Fiction.

37. I think that line about kindness and courtesy really hit the nail
on the head. :D It was sweet to discover the kid in everybody at the family's "Christmas". How the Virgin dealt with her boss (I think?) and how the sex-starved guy approached his best friend.

"I WOULD", Don McKellar responds, "But I just don't want to risk the idea of having any BAD SEX today."

Us white folks would break many bones trying to move like that. Unique. Rise was very good as well.

I liked Roll Bounce, the period roller-skating showdown film from a couple of years ago. Not bad.

But my big "no one else likes it" movie is "Big Meat Eater", which is a true piece of schlock, embarassing at times semi-musical with a few brilliant moments.

Local Hero, Quiet Earth, Liquid Sky...

38. I like it, in fact I saw it in the theater during its first theatrical run.
But it's not for anyone - it takes a LOT of patience and some people are just not going to sit through it, no matter what. I read that it has the longest script of any movie (in terms of number of words).

Checked it out at the library on a whim and thought it was hilarious.

A couple of actors are hired to play gangsters and the scene where they 'practice' their 'tough guy' routine in front of a mirror had me in utter stitches!

Another good one that nobody else seems to like is 'Death To Smootchie'. I like funnies and that one had 'em too.

181. Not very well known?
You must not have been a teenager in the 80s, everybody saw that movie. It was a big hit. It was directed by Adrian Lyne, the same director who made Fatal Attraction.

It came out in 1980, so it's really got more of the late 70s vibe than the 80s. Mullets, feathered hair, lots of casual drinking and drug use, indiscriminant sex. This was made before "Just say no." ;-)

I didn't think it was supertotallygnarlyawesome, but I thought it was a pleasant waste of 90 minutes. Lea Thompson was one of my "Red Dawn" crushes from the 80s. It was a decent mainstream goofball comedy from the 80's. I do think they spent a little too much on that duck suit though...

139. One of my FAVORITE movies.....
Own it, watch it fortnightly (just kidding, but I love that word). I always believed that movie suffered because of it's title.

Just awesome quotes in that movie...such as:

Stuart Mackenzie: Look at the size of that boy's heed.
Tony Giardino: Shhh!
Stuart Mackenzie: I'm not kidding, it's like an orange on a toothpick.
Tony Giardino: Shhh, you're going to give the boy a complex.
Stuart Mackenzie: Well, that's a huge noggin. That's a virtual planetoid.
Tony Giardino: Shh!
Stuart Mackenzie: Has it's own weather system.
Tony Giardino: Sh, sh, shh.
Stuart Mackenzie: HEAD! MOVE!
Stuart Mackenzie: I'm not kidding, that boy's head is like Sputnik; spherical but quite pointy at parts! Now that was offsides, wasn't it? He'll be crying himself to sleep tonight, on his huge pillow.

That's what the hubby says when I have the misfortune of walking in front of the t.v. during some crucial moment... "HEAD! MOVE!"

And who could resist Charlie's beatnik poems every time he broke up with someone...LOL

115. David Lynch's "Lost Highway"
I can't remember a single positive review of this film, nor can I remember meeting anyone who liked it.

Strange thing is, Lynch remade it as "Mulholland Drive" and got an nomination for Best Director, and that film was hailed (rightly so) as a masterpiece.

Then he remade it again as "Inland Empire," and I think critics were afraid to question the film's "brilliance," even though in my opinion it is the weakest of the three films in the trilogy.

144. Crimes of the Heart
with Sissy Spacek, Jessica Lange and Diane Keaton is an all-time fave. I'm the only geek I know that brings it up and no one's ever seen it.

I loved the line from Babe (Sissy Spacek) after she shoots her husband non-fatally then goes to the kitchen and comes back with an icy cold glass filled to the brim. As the asshole's lying flabbergasted and bleeding on the dining room floor, she says...

"Would ja lak some lemun-AYDE??"

Nobody sane likes that film. Pretentious students love it because anything that dull and impenetrable must be profound and because, well, that's what pretentious students do. Unfortunately, I never grew out of being a pretentious student, so I still like it.

162. Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
The critics loved it, but I think everybody I know that saw it really despised the movie... not just disliked, but hated it.

Since I was a bit of a movie buff, I got a lot of the "inside" jokes in the movie that seemed almost made to appeal to critics.

The ultimate chick flick, but in a good way.

Addresses the compromises that women feel they have to make in their lives. I went with 4 girlfriends, and we were all crying at the end of it, and it doesn't really have a traditionally happy or sad ending.

The critics TRASHED it, but I noticed all the (uniformly bad) reviews I read were from male reviewers, who would not possibly be capable of "getting" it, just like I can't understand anything Cormac McCarthy writes.

Brooding, low-key, monochromatic view of life in an all-male Catholic school in the 80's, based on the Robert Cormier book. Great soundtrack (Kate Bush! Joan Armatrading!), a borderline-brilliant performce by John Glover as a psychotic headmaster, and a timeless, challenging message regarding contrariness, futility, and the triumph of power over truth. One of the most relentlessly pessimistic (REALISTIC, actually)films ever made, a downbeat mood piece to be watched alone.

I don't know anyone else who's ever seen it, yet I've seen it at least a hundred times.
