Still praying for them both, and their children.

2. Me, too
Heading to bed now, will keep them in my prayers. Not much more you can do at a time like this.

Everyone here has been fantastic, so supportive.

4. Still praying as well
There's a candle on my alter for them. I'm still hoping for a miracle, but it doesn't sound promising. It was heart-breaking enough asking for a "Do not resuscitate" order on my parents, and they were old, worn-out and in pain. I can't imagine what OMC is going through. She's still young, and they have two small children.

This breaks my heart.

5. I've been watching and praying, too. I didn't see this morning's post
until a bit ago. Oh, Stacey! I wish you could turn around and come back to your little family. We all are pulling for you! Bless your heart.

6. .
When in the hour of utmost need
We know not where to look for aid;
When days and nights of anxious thought
No help nor counsel yet have brought,

Then this our comfort is alone,
That we may meet before Thy throne
And cry, O faithful God, to Thee
For rescue from our misery.

To Thee may raise our hearts and eyes,
Repenting sore with bitter sighs,
And seek Thy pardon for our sin
And respite from our griefs within

For Thou hast promised graciously
To hear all those who cry to Thee
Through Him whose name alone is great,
Our Savior and our Advocate.

And thus we come, O God, today
And all our woes before Thee lay;
For sorely tried, cast down, we stand,
Perplexed by fears on every hand.

Ah! hide not for our sins Thy face,
Absolve us through Thy boundless grace,
Be with us in our anguish still,
Free us at last from every ill.

11. Is this a tacky idea?
Today was payday and I donated what we could afford to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

What about a DU fundraiser or something in Stacy's name? I feel the need to do something.

12. No, I don't think it's tacky at all - I was actually pondering about something similar the other day
Someone was asking about flowers and I always think donations are nice too and last longer.

How could we do that?

see if we can do something like this and have it done in Stacy's name. Will ask OMC, too.

15. Not tacky at all! I feel like I want to do something too
I like the idea of donations to the NBC, but I'd like to do something more tangible. A couple of years ago a friend's cousin was laid up in the hospital for awhile with brain cancer, and naturally, her husband was just overwhelmed. What helped them the most was donations that paid for someone to come in and help with the kids (they had 3 little ones), someone to come in and do some housekeeping (dishes still need to get washed, the carpets still need to be vacuumed, etc.), a taxi service to get her husband back and forth to the hospital so he didn't have to deal with the driving himself, a meal service (good nutritious meals that could easily be popped into the microwave for him and the kids with little clean up), someone to run errands like food shopping, etc.... any little service that helped to take care of the every day necessities he and the kids needed so he didn't have to juggle these things and worry about them himself. Complete strangers even volunteered their time to take care of some of these things for him and the kids. Family and friends seem to only be able to help just so much with their time and finances.

I imagine that OMC could really use some help as well. I hate the idea of him trying to drive bleary eyed back and forth to the hospital and still take care of the house and the kids and run errands by himself and even just keeping up with eating regularly while going through all this.

Maybe we could just ask him what would help the most? I'm getting the feeling from his updates that he's feeling pulled in all different directions and seems to be terribly alone and overwhelmed in this.

28. These are all great ideas and very practical.
If I were in his situation, I can imagine that flowers and good thoughts would be comforting, but this is what would help me the most - a practical, tangible assistance.

Run by a Texas couple, friends of Zig Ziegler, neither of whom have had breast cancer or know anything about it.

Donate to National Breast Cancer Coalition - Pres. Clinton established a fund there in his mother's name, you can donate to it if you wish. NBCC was founded by Fran Visco, Dr. Susan Love, Linda Ellerbee and a group of other feminist women who had breast cancer.

NBCC also launched their "Breast Cancer Caucus" initiative today.

It highlights the 2008 candidates positions on a legislative agenda for health care reform and ending breast cancer.
