Poll question: Best National Park
Edited on Sun Sep-30-07 06:02 PM by Quixote1818
I combined a couple that are either connected or in the same vicinity and have similar landforms.

I was on the edge with Mt. Ranier, Redwood, Sequoia and Everglades. It was tough leaving them out.

1. I like Rocky Mountain National Park best myself
The Smokies are beautiful of course but to me you can't be a respectable mountain range without tundra/glaciers....I went there in June and there is a picture of me standing next to snow pack taller than me (I am 5 ft tall)......:wow:

3. Have you been to the San Juans in Colorado?
I find them more stunning yet they they have no National Park or Monument status.

Where is that? Haven't heard of it. Southern CO? The times I have been out there I have always been in the Denver-Boulder-Colorado Springs areas with some day trips around those cities.....

with the glaciers retreting at such a fast pace...

I chose yellowstone.

But I love Yosemite. I live close and go there at least twice a year.

6. I had to vote Other.
My personal vote is for Arches National Park in Utah, with Rocky Mountain National Park coming in a close second for me.

Been there in the summer and the winter. It is always breathtaking.

13. I voted for Grand Canyon, but Arches is also amazing.
Yosemite, Redwoods, Carlsbad, etc. are also great, but nothing took my breath away like the ol' Canyon. Rocky Mountain didn't do much for me. Pretty, but ... ehhh ... mountains. Nothing out of the ordinary, IMO.

Edited on Sun Sep-30-07 09:52 PM by Blue_In_AK
but really my favorite (of the ones I've been to) is Wrangell-St. Elias.
It's the largest U.S. national park, equal to six Yellowstones. It has to be seen to be believed.

18. Banff NP Canada
You didn't say Best US National Park.

IMHO:

Best in US-Yosemite in the late spring/early summer when the falls are running and the meadows are green and blooming. Crowds aren't so bad either.

Best not in the West-Acadia is wonderful and it's in Maine!

Best little known NP-Isle Royale Michigan: wolves, moose and Lake Superior.

Best that isn't a NP but should be-Na Pali Coast/Waimea Canyon Kauai Hawaii.

20. Yellowstone
A geological wonder, beautiful beyond compare, and full of mysteries and facets which could take years to explore and appreciate. It is by far my favorite of all the national parks.

I also rank Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, Mt. Rainier, and Grand Teton highly. Yosemite is number one on my wishlist, followed by Denali, Glacier Bay, and Glacier. Throw in Hawaii Volcanoes, and Sequoia too.

I have also enjoyed Olympic, North Cascades, and Great Smoky Mountain. I am a proud member of the National Parks Conservation Association, a lobbying arm very influential in preservation and funding for the parks.

22. Best for what?
I voted Yosemite because it is gorgeous -- but the national park service is under funded and over stetched and petty soon the forests may belong to *'s cronies.

25. My favorite is Bryce
The formations stand out as so much more memorable than any other park I've visited, and I think that includes every one on this list. Not as varied as other parks but more beautiful and unique.

28. from this list, Yellowstone/Grand Tetons. wow what an amazing place
but dammit you left off Mammoth Cave National Park. Hey 375 miles of underground passage is nothing to sneeze at and it is a pretty park too.

my personal sentimental favorite, that's all

Very big, beautiful, and UNcommercialized. The commercialization is what completely killed my Grand Canyon experience...
