2. I wondered that...
when I'm driving along, they fly right down low in front of me. But they could fly way up high out of danger so easily! They can probably see me coming, so why take the risk?

Then it occurred to me, maybe they do it on purpose. Maybe it's fun. After all, humans do things that are a bit risky for the fun of it, too.

3. Yep, they fly down low in front of the car.
Maybe its a wind effect thing and they get some kind of push from it.

6. I think its to take advantage of the wind currents
created by the car's movement. But I'm not sure.

Rabbits, on the other hand, I know about. They run out in front of cars because they think its a fun game. I used to live in a winding mountain road and you could see the rabbits waiting in the bushes for a car to come. They'd leap out right in front of you and race across the road and then I swear they'd stop and wait for the next car.

Dozens of 'em. Little brats. :P

7. Thanks for the info.
Yeah, I've thought about wind currents as the reason. Makes sense.

Sorry to hear you have rabbit karma. Better than rabid karma, I suppose.

Why do birds fly in front of cars
Every time they leave bars
Just like me, they want to be
Smooshed by you

...at the easy pickings of roadkilled insects. Inevitably, this will sometimes lead them to swoop down in front of oncoming cars, necessitating some fancy flying to avoid becoming fowl-puree.
