where would you look for one?

2. I've had a couple of hand-me-downs, but...
...most just sort of show up. I don't look for them; they look for me.

3. Never give a cat or kitten away to strangers.
They go for $20 to $40 each at animal labs.

4. Animal shelter
Shelters have so many cats and kittens who need a home.
Both of my cats picked me at the shelter. One decided to hit me on the head as I walked by his little cage. The other one did a little dance when I looked in his cage. I couldn't be happier that I have these two little boys.

5. We never have to look for a cat
They just show up. The latest refugee turned up on our porch emaciated and sick two weeks ago. We have six now.

7. They tend to show up here also!
Some mighty nice "people" tend to drop them off for me up by the road. Same thing with dogs.

6. Our methods:
Kittens #1 and #2 (siblings) -- barn kitties who were placed with us through a kind animal liaison lady.

Kitten #3 -- showed up on our porch, tiny, starving, desperate

Kitten #4 -- shelter kitten

We hope to adopt older kitties from the shelter at some point, too.

8. My oldest 2 are former shelter cats
By principle, that's where I get my pets. If nobody adopts them, they're most likely going to be killed. If I can save one or two, that's definitely the way I'm gonna go.

My new kitten, on the other hand, was rescued by my boss. So I suppose she's a bit of a hand-me-down. Though I did save her from a trip to the shelter (albeit a no-kill one...), so I think of that as saving a space at the nice shelter for another kitty.

9. I usually wind up being adopted by cats. I would have to go way
back to recall the last time I looked for a cat to adopt. My current kitty was a feral kitten that my daughter rescued as she was climbing a brick wall to get back into the eaves of the building where she was born. My daughter took her home where the kitten managed to claw the grill off the A/C duct and fell into the ductwork. My son-in-law took the ductwork apart so she could get out and she lived under their house for two or three weeks (the grandchildren crawled under the house twice a day with food and water) before they were able to catch her in a humane trap. I took her home after that and she eventually turned out to be a really nice kitty. I've had her for about 6 years now.

10. One of mine was a neighborhood stray who kept trying to sneak
Edited on Tue Sep-18-07 10:30 AM by mycritters2
into my house.

The other two were Humane Society fosters I was caring for, who weren't adopted yet when it was time to move. If I hadn't adopted them, had returned them to the HS, I knew they would've been euthanized. The reason they were with me in the first place was that the shelter was full. So, I adopted 'em!

All three are great cats!!

edited because "sneak" has an "n"

11. I think I'm getting a stray
I wasn't really looking for another cat, but she seems to like me and needs a home.
