I love winter!

I really love winter. I love it even when it's negative five million degrees out and I have to wrap myself in three blankets to dare get out of bed, and standing outside for the bus damn near makes me hypothermic, even in my gloves and hat and hood wrapped around the hat and huge parka...

I love it when the first snows come--sugar powder falling from the sky, and everything is dead quiet. Then afterwards, for once, the world looks all the same, all the dead grass and crumpled leaves and frost-heaved tar split open like lacerations, everything is gone under a blanket of white.

I love the holidays, and I'm not even religious. I love screeching along and mocking the corny music, I love stealing desserts from platters on Christmas Eve and staying up til midnight with half-drunk adults, I love keeping the bows from presents and plastering them all over my hair.

I love it when you go outside at night and it's so damned cold that you feel like if you reached out and touched the air, you'd break it, and mirror-like pieces would fall around you. The stars and moon look like liquid in the blackness, and when it's really cold, your eyes tear up and splinter the sky into a thousand little fragments of space....

Yay winter!

8. Winter without snow is a huge disconnect for me.

The two are inseparable. Trying to imagine a winter without snow is really frightening, and these past few "winters" have been getting pretty bad. I want my 80+ inches of snow and at least one good blizzard! :P
