'The Butterfly Effect' is not a bad movie
:shrug:BTW they're having a remake of 'Dawn of the Dead'. They need to start a petition to stop people from remaking classic horror movies.

1. It's not a 'bad' movie but...
Is it a 'good' movie?

8. It's ok
The ladies of DU would probably hate the ending but when it comes out on DVD, I think I'll buy it.

2. Dawn of the Dead remake
What a difference a generation makes--I read an interview with the director who described how hard it was to film in a mall this time, because none of the typical mall stores (the Gap was pointed out) want to be associated with splattering blood and brains. In 1979, the mall stores, most of which no longer exists, apparently just went "huh, yeah, okay" to their appearance.

3. "Remaking classic horror movies",like "Night of the Living Dead", perhaps?
C'mon...the whole "Dead" series exists because somebody "remade" the original...even the spoofs like "Return of the Living Dead" and "Return of the living Dead II".

10. Did you see "Return II"?
It was just a different version of "Return I" (not a sequel, an alternate plotline...the characters kept saying "I feel like I've seen this before")

13. RofLD 3 is one of the unsung classics of the 90's!
Mindy Clarke as a borderline personality disorder who becomes a self-injuring zombie to keep from eating her boyfriend's brain!? What a classic metaphor for BPD!

When I was attending psych conferences and the subject turned to good portrayals of clinical illness (Frances, A Beautiful Mind) I would always mention this movie, just to watch academians go bugged-eyed and silent. lol

4. I liked Butterfly Effect too
Very dark. And Ashton Kucher has range! He can act! Who knew? I hope this performance keeps him from being typecast as the teenage doofus. He plays a GREAT doofus, don't get me wrong, but he can do other roles too.

5. heh heh
From a review of The Butterfly Effect in The Village Voice:

"In this version of the universe, Ashton Kutcher discovers that he can
inhabit his child self whenever he reads aloud from his journals and
squints really hard. You have to, if not love, at least not mind a
movie in which the very act of Ashton Kutcher reading is enough of a
cosmic trauma to rip a hole in the fabric of space-time."
