Reasons why i really should move my money out of citibank
if you deposit a very large check, they may freeze your account.

which sucks for you, since rent is due.

1. Was it over 10 grand?
If so, that's normal banking procedure, I think.

4. That's odd.
I've never had that happen to me at US Bank and I randomly deposit very large checks. (student loan, inheritance, etc checks)

5. It was incredibly inconvenient
I was in the process of buying and selling a house, and suddenly found my visa check card being declined at the grocery store. Grr.

6. I'd raise hell.
I understand large checks taking a day or so to clear and post to your account, but freezing the account is completely unreasonable.

7. It was crazy.
They said "loss prevention" had gotten involved because of the amount.
I got them to release the hold on my account after a few days, but they still froze the check for over a week, which almost held up the closing on the house.

8. citibank...
...went thru student loan hell with them.

But my best citi-bank story: they put a five day hold on a check issued by them to us because it was "out of state." I tried to get them to explain to me why they had to hold a check from their own corporation and all they could tell me is that they put a hold on all out of state checks. I went round and round with several supervisors.

All I really know is that citibank got to hold that money five days longer than they should have and I couldn't even buy groceries.

This was years ago, but I imagine like most big U.S. corporations, they've only gotten worse.

9. BOFA tried that with a check i had from insurance company, they said it would
"Have a 5 day hold" put on it---"I don't think so, deposit and have it available today or close my account" they didn't put on hold on it.

10. I hate banks
All banks. Bastards.

They take your money and charge you for keeping it. And its not like its sitting in their vault gathering dust - hell, no. It's out there making money for them. So they make money off your money, and they make money off charging you for keeping your money and they make money by charging exorbitant fees for things like using ATM's or having checks bounce because they've put a freeze on your account (though you can bet your ass THEY'RE using those funds).

I hate them. I once had a bank charge me for calling them and asking them a question. When I called to find out what the charge was for, they charged me for that call, too! They nickel and dime you to death all the while using your money to make money.

But we have to use the damn things because you can't pay bills without a checking account. You can't buy online or rent a car or do a billion other things without a credit card. You can't rent a bloody apartment without good credit. Etc.

Bastards. Fucktards. Hate 'em. :grr:
