I overslept on NoelMN's first day of school.
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 10:33 AM by LaraMN
My husband didn't wake me up because he forgot it was a school day!

Also, I thought Jack started preschool today, but apparently he doesn't start yet.

I TRIED to be organized! I did! I had a chart on the fridge, and everything packed or laid out. I used highlighters. I thought I set the alarm...

I need a mental pacemaker.

1. I once forgot about the Tooth Fairy
My daughter was about 6, I think - put her little tooth under the pillow and the next morning, the darn tooth was still there!

I told her the Tooth Fairy may have been hung up in traffic or something and to try again - that night, I left her some money and a note from the fairy on a very tiny piece of paper with fancy writing explaining how she'd been sidelined (I've forgotten exactly what lame excuse I used but my daughter still has the note - she's 25).

Parenthood kills more brain cells than drugs. :P

2. I did the same thing this summer!
I told Sophie the tooth fairy was probably busy and since our last name starts with a "W," she was probably at the end of the list, and the fairy just didn't get to her.

Parenting sure hones the quick-excuse-making skills, doesn't it?

4. For me, it was the Easter Bunny
poor kid woke up wondering why he had been forgotten.

I sent him on a hunt for his Easter basket and while he was hunting around in another part of the house, I put the thing in his closet.

Lucky for us parents that kids are so easy to dupe, isn't it?

6. LOL!!
lovin' the "traffic" excuse!!!

I forgot twice! Both times I told my youngest that it probably fell under the bed, while they were in another room, ahh the race from my wallet, to his bedroom, but I beat him both times. Turns out I was "right"! A twenty dollar bill under the bed!! (Why so much? I had NO smaller bills, it was NO time to think twice LMAO!)

Of course one lie leads to another, and my kid asked why twenty dollars??? very puzzled... and my response was, "well, apparently this is your "second to last tooth" and the last one, was, "well this is your last tooth"... gees.. btw... I forgot he has an extra tooth and it's loose now... I had better start saving for the "well, this is your extra and VERY last tooth!"

9. Been there, done that
We made the kids leave a penny with each tooth. They got 2 dollars and a foreign coin back and told them the foreign coin came from the last kid the tooth fairy visited. It was easy to fib and tell them the tooth fairy had a lot of stops around the world that night and did'nt make it to our house.

11. One day late?
My tooth fairy took months to show up. Every time.
We discovered why though, because my cousin told us the tooth fairy was really her mom. and since her mom lives halfway across the country from us, that would explain the delay. :)

3. Quit getting drunk every night
;) just a thought.

Once we forgot it was a field trip day - the school called and all the kids were on the bus ready to go - Debi Jr. was still in bed!

10. I feel your pain
My daughter started kindergarten today. I had put everything out last night - backpack, clothes, everything. The little darling then spent most of the night roaming the house and not sleeping, which meant that I was roaming the house after her and trying to get her cute little behind back in bed. So, this morning, not only did the alarm fail to go off at 7 am and I had finally fallen into a sound sleep, but she was a bear to get out of bed. My husband however was home (of course, he's always home since he doesn't have a job) and very kindly got me up so that I could get her up and dressed and out to the bus. Now we are waiting to go to the bus stop to pick her up at 3:45.
