New cable series: Saving Grace / Damages / State of Mind
Anyone here watch any of them? What do you think?

Last night was the first time I saw Saving Grace, with Holly Hunter - I really liked it; Holly Hunter is fantastic.

I watched Damages with Glenn Close a while back but didn't really get into it, though Close was also fantastic.

State of Mind is with Lili Taylor, also good. I'd say I liked Saving Grace best, then State of Mind, with Damamges a take it or leave it.

Nice to have cable (two are TNT, one is Lifetime) offering interesting shows with characters that are older than 30!

1. Just curious - do you also watch The Closer?
It's in a similar vein and I really like it, but can't get into Saving Grace which comes on right after it. I keep watching it for 30 mins and then turning it off. I'll give Damages and State of Mind a try.

2. I haven't watched The Closer regularly -
I seem to forget which night it's on, etc. But last night I caught both of them, and I like them both...

3. We're hooked on "Saving Grace" . Holly Hunter is fantastic in that role!
I've always loved her. Unique idea for a show, too, we're really enjoying it. We've got the season pass on our tivo lineup, so we'll catch every week....but apparently there's only 3 episodes left! :(

4. I love Saving Grace!
Holly Hunter is awesome in that role, and the whole show is good.

Haven't watched the other two.

And, I also suggest you check out The Closer. Another great show.

5. I also highly recommend The Closer
though it's nearly over for the season.

I've started watching Damages, but I'm about 2 weeks behind. It's on my DVR, and I like it, but I'm not hooked yet.

6. They're Bittersweet to Me - Three Great Actresses Who Can No Longer Get Movie Roles
are now doing TV. Don't get me wrong. They're good shows. But, Holly Hunter, Glenn Close, and Lili Taylor should be lead actresses in films. You don't see Al Pacino doing TV do you?

7. true -- but in interviews with the three stars of each of
these shows, they all emphasize that they believe the writing and character development is better on cable right now. Pacino just walks through movies these days, and really, there aren't a lot of good movies being made, but there are some really interesting characters in cable. Maybe Pacino will one day want to work in cable, if he's interested in good writing. (probably not, but -- ??)

8. I Give Pacino and DeNiro A Pass for Selling Out
They both made some of the greatest movies of all time in their prime, but they got paid squat for it. So, if they wanna sell out, go ahead. I'll just rent "Dog Day Afternoon" or "Mean Streets".
