Barnes & Noble Won't Stock O.J. Book
From the AP

By HILLEL ITALIE AP National Writer

August 22,2007 | NEW YORK -- entertainmentminute

If you're hoping to buy the new edition of O.J. Simpson's "If I Did It," don't expect to find a copy at Barnes & Noble.

Citing a perceived lack of customer interest, the chain said the book would only be available by special order or for purchase online through Barnes & Noble.com.

"Our buyers don't feel there will be enough of a demand to carry it in our stores," Barnes & Noble spokeswoman Mary Ellen Keating told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

A rival chain, Borders Group Inc., said Tuesday that it would stock "If I Did It," a ghostwritten, fictionalized account of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. But spokeswoman Ann Binkley said Borders "will not promote or market the book in any way."

1. Its going to be one of those books
that everyone wants to read, but no one wants to be seen buying.
I predict high internet sales.

2. So they are still selling it just not in their stores. What a cop out.

3. I no longer shop at Borders or Barnes & Noble.
They seem to have shame with carrying O.J.'s new book, but they have no problems with selling, and prominently displaying in their displays and on their endcaps, books by Ann Coulter, a woman who advocates killing, imprisonment, torture...well...you all know where I'm going with this.

No thanks. I would much rather support my local, progressive bookstores.

4. B&N is an all-blue company
For anything the RWers buy there, a portion goes to Dem candidates. I always laughed when I saw a Savage or Coulter book being bought there.

Also: The books with the largest 'shrinkage' (I.e. shoplifting) rates were the RW hate-screeds. So the RWers are screwing their favorite authors out of royalties in those cases.

It's a no-win situation. :)

Note: Do I like seeing those books come out for sale? No. But as a first-amendment kinda guy I accept it, knowing that for every one of those will be a John Dean, Michael Moore, Al Franken, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Al Gore, Paul Krugman, etc....
