Do dogs get hay fever?
My dog has been going around rubbing his muzzle repeatedly on either the couch or the edge of the coffee table. At the risk of TMI, he left the edge of the coffee table looking like he'd wiped it with a wet sponge. He's not sneezing, but he sure acts like his nose is itchy.

1. My Siberian Has
bad allergies this time of year. She'll rub her muzzle on the carpet until it's bloody. :( Happens every year about this time, until we get a frost. The vet has her on Benedryl, as well as some type of cream for her mouth. It never helps all that much, however since I've added Fish Oil capsules to her diet....she hasn't been rubbing her muzzle quite as bad.

3. I've been trying to get my dog to try the fish oil.
He won't eat the capsules, and he turned up his nose at the mint flavored fish oil that I bought. (Well, who wouldn't?)

He has very tender skin that reacts badly to flea bites. I'm going to try him on the straight unflavored fish oil again. I just need to learn how to empty the capsule without squirting it all over myself.

He has rubbed all the hair off his muzzle between his nose and his mouth.

7. The Vet Showed Me
how to get her to take the fish oil capsule. Open up her mouth and push it down her throat......gently, of course. :) I got used to this method, as my other dog is epileptic and needs daily meds, too.

If that doesn't work or you're reluctant to try it, try wrapping the capsule in cheese or peanut butter. My dog caught on to that pretty quick and would leave the pill on the floor. :)

8. He'll take it if I pour the oil on a piece of bread.
The problem is squirting the oil all over myself.

9. In That Case.....
Put about a tablespoon of oil in his food daily. He may like the taste....and no mess for you! :)

This might be helpful. I think they suggest 2 tablespoons daily, as well as other remedies.

4. My female Schip, Sidney, is allergic to ragweed
She is just starting to gear up with a few symptoms. Every late summer/early fall she has to go on prednisone when it starts to really bother her.
Vet determined a few years back that her skin problems and itching correlates with the ragweed season.
I give her a Brewers yeast and an essential oils supplement and it minimizes her dry skin.

5. My dog has been sneezing a lot over the past 3 weeks.
My allergies have gotten worse over that period of time too, so it wouldn't surprise me if she did have hay fever.

6. My dog Kara (RIP) was highly allergic to grass pollen.
Poor thing sneezed and coughed when pollen hit. :( Sounds like your dog may indeed be allergic to something airborne.
