SpongeBob Balloon Stolen 3 Years Ago Recovered

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- A 9-foot-tall SpongeBob SquarePants balloon has been recovered nearly three years after being stolen, and the cartoon creature with the yellow sponge head is reported in good condition.

The balloon is leaking a little air, but the "exact extent of his injuries are unknown," police said in announcing the recovery Thursday.

The balloon, valued at $1,500, was taken from atop a Burger King restaurant in November 2004, one of the many thefts around the country of the balloons that were part of a promotion in conjunction with release of the SpongeBob movie.
