2. This is a hard choice.
When I was a teenager, my favorite genre by far was science fiction. By a slight margin I now prefer noir and neo-noir (like Chinatown). There's lots of it on TCM.

4. Of the ones you listed, documentary
But what I prefer most are foreign/international films. I'm not a fan of Hollywood drivel.

Animated shorts are another favourite.

9. If you like foreign films, here are four absolute must-sees:
The Bicycle Thief (1948) http://imdb.com/title/tt0040522/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVB0IMcAG4k

Tokyo Story (1953) http://imdb.com/title/tt0046438/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqeDy-1TO98

Soy Cuba (1964) http://imdb.com/title/tt0058604/
Trailer: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zvwLZOpxAFQ

Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) http://imdb.com/title/tt0060138/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-igLoLfRHs

All four are masterpieces that go way above and beyond anything Hollywood has ever come up with. I have posted these recommendations several times in this forum, but nobody here listens to anything I say. They are hard to find films, but fortunately Netflix carries all of them.

After I posted this poll, I said to myself, "Wait! I should have a choice for Foreign films!" Damn this software that only allows 10 choices.

5. Action/Adventure. I'm assuming cheesy kung-fu theater falls
under that category, too.

which would be westerns

11. Mine would actually be espionage / Cold War
In the absence of such a choice, I went with the crime option.
