On the other hand, there are a few genuine drama queens who seem to revel in flamboyant departures and attention-grabbing door slamming. But I would absolutely not put Will in that category -- considering, especially, his high profile, I thought his explanation was entirely appropriate. And I hope someday he comes back.

I certainly don't. But the boy CAN be a bit overly dramatic and annoying at times. He posts a lot of thoughtful, worthwhile stuff. And then there are his other posts. And even he is well aware that he has made a complete and total ass of himself on several occasions, and he's a decent enough guy that he would probably still admit to having done so. I'm glad for him that he's still committed to the Democratic party, and I know he'll be back to delight and annoy us all again. In the meantime, I'm glad that he's going away for a bit. His overweening egotism is a bit much at times. I don't mean that he thinks he's the greatest thing (though he probably does), but that he can take almost any subject and make it all about him.

You, on the other hand, have always seemed to me to be a class act. I have a lot of respect for you. I hope you won't take Will's conflicts too much to heart and leave us as well.

Personally, I will miss Will. We've exchanged a few posts over the past few years. Can't say we know each other well, but well enough to know we stand near the same place. Hope he comes back ... that this is only a DU vacation. I take those from time to time.

We've all seen it, that's why half of us are in the Lounge instead of GD. The number of disruptors and trolls who stay just enough within the rules to avoid being stoned is tearing this board apart. Every day the same group starts the same series of threads. Democrats are bad, Democrats must be defeated, Hillary is the devil. Over and over. I love debate, even when I disagree with the points being raised, but this isn't debate, this is death (to DU) by a thousand cuts, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who believes that many of those posts are trying to achieve just that.

I think the "farewell" messages now are people trying to force a change, not people seeking attention. Will started it, and now others are falling on their swords before the emperor in protest along with him. The attention-hogs are the ones who leave because their posts were met with overwhelming disagreement. Their "I'm going to hold my breath until I die and then you'll miss me" posts are ridiculous.

I think something else is happening here. And I don't find it all that amusing. Rather grim and sobering, actually. We've got a strong political force with DU, and some of us have been here for many years building it into this. To see it coming apart like it's been for the last couple of months is frustrating. I come to the Lounge to hang and chat, but I come to DU to try to change the world. Now it's looking like we are losing our strength, and our relevance, with the constant sniping. It's sad to watch. Change needs to happen, and I think that's what those who are vaporizing are trying to say.

Well, some are just drama queens. But not all.
