Photothread, Sawtooth Wilderness, Idaho.
After leaving Yellowstone we camped a few days at a place called Petite Lake. The lake was shappire blue and crystal clear. The pictures are from one of the most beautiful trails I've ever walked leading to Alice Lake. We did not make it to the lake but will return to finish the lake loop trail sooner rather than later.

1. Beautiful pictures
I love the country out west. It's about the only thing I miss about over the road trucking.

2. Hopefully your truck was AC equipped.
Other than Yellowstone and the Idaho mountains it was soooooo damn hot.

3. It was most of the time
Had a few a/c problems, though. It's impossible to sleep inside a truck when it's 100 degrees inside. No air flow.

10. Have you hiked the Alice Lake loop?
The kids balked before the hike so we had to turn back at the saddle.

11. Yes, there's a great cliff to jump off .
Not too high, in the 20' range and pleanty deep below. The water temp will wake you up in an instant. The hike itself is doable in a day and definitely worth it.

Down the road is 4th of July Creek. That drainage has some of the most spectacular scenery in Idaho. I highly recommend, Heart Lake, 4th of July Lake and Lightning Lake. 4th of July is easy and usually a bit crowded but beautiful. Several other smaller lakes are an easy hike from there. Heart is amazing but a long and difficult hike. I think by backpack, I'd schedule 5 days. I've only been back to Heart on horse. That was years ago. Lightning is a bit difficult to find and isn't in any of the books but is a spectacular high mountain lake. You could make an overnight trip out of it but there are no decent camps near the lake. I ran into my first bear there. :scared: You do walk past a silver mine that is not in use but has a caretaker who is very friendly and is happy to give tours of the mine.
