What is it about the sound of running water...
that makes you want to pee?

In my mid 20s I was in a pretty serious accident and broke my kneecap.
I was in the hospital, and bedridden for the first couple of days.

So...I was forced to use a bedpan and that male urinary jug thing.
I say 'forced to', but the problem was...I couldn't.

I guess my system was still in shock, or something.
The URGE was there. OH YEAH.
But nothing happened.

Then a new nurse came on shift.
Quite a looker.
"Can't go, hon?"
"Uh...no."
"Here, let's try this."
And she turned the faucet in the sink on.
And...blessed relief.

Weird.

1. something similar happened to me
I had given birth to my son, and had spinal anesthesia, which was wearing off but wasn't completely worn off.

The nurse came in and said that I had to get up and go to the bathroom. I told her I didn't have to go. (All I wanted to do was sleep; I had been up all night in labor.) She insisted that I had to get up and walk. She walked me into the bathroom and I sat on the pot. I said "see, I told you I didn't have to go."

Then she turned the faucet on. I think I peed for about an hour.

:wtf:

3. Well then, don't ever walk beside a river.
or stand beside a waterfall, or meander alongside a babbling brook.

4. When I was potty training my kids, I used running water as a
training aid. I suspect it was the same with many of us and established a subconscious response to the sound of running water.

5. We had a small indoor fountain, but stopped using it...
because to my daughter and me it sounded exactly like my teenage son peeing. In urology terms, "strong stream."
