Waiting For the Insulation Guys, or Someone Like Them
They said they'd be here between 10 a.m. and noon. It's now 1 p.m.

Grr.

1. "Someone Like Them"
Like at this point you'll take anyone who'll staple random stuff in your attic...

D'oh!
Missed the reference...they were a couple of years before my time. I was raised on a Python diet myself.

5. So was I
I actually "discovered" Firesign Theatre before Python, though — on an "underground" radio station in 1974 that played "High School Madness" (Porgy and Mudhead) from "Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers." I was like, "Can they say 'masturbated' on the radio?" :D

I didn't know who the hell they were, though, so I didn't pursue them. (And anyway, the only relevant comedy team then to the average teenager was Cheech and Chong.) It was another 20 years before I was re-acquainted with them and could handle more cerebral comedy than "Dave's not here."

8. I discovered Python in early 1975
PBS was running episodes (repeats, but new to the US). One other guy at my HS and I were the only ones I knew who watched it. Then the movie came out a few months later, and it took off.

I didn't hear of Firesign until about 1978.

9. Where did you live then?
KERA in Dallas was the first U.S. station to air MPFC; that was in May, 1975.

I don't know when KQED in San Francisco picked it up, but it was October or November of 1975 when I first saw it.

Must have been after the movie then. I could've sworn I was watching it before the movie came out.

Was that on Wikipedia, or do you just have an encyclopedic memory? :P

12. It's standard Python trivia
to the terminally obsessed.

If you google "KERA Monty Python"... no, wait, I think I've got it bookmarked.

Chapman, Jones, Palin and Gilliam on KERA during a pledge drive. :D

3. I have been working putting insulation in the upstairs room, just finished.
You know who your friends are when they come over to help.

I don't want to see anymore insulation.

But perhaps they have to refresh themselves first from another insulation job in sunny Kollyfornia!
