Something happened yesterday that was so funny
I had to share. A little history - the roving pigeons outside are my buddies. They're next to Parkland's McDonald's so they eat a lot of junk. I feed them fortified bird seed and when the CDC checks them twice a year, they remark to me that they are really healthy.

Anyway, I've been going out there for 10 or 11 years every weekday. They like me and trust me - they even trust me with their fledgling babies. When I put my hand out some of them perch on it. I have 2 babies doing it these days.

I get in trouble for feeding them. One nazi said that they carry disease. I told him that was awfully funny coming from a guy who walks through Parkland every day.

Well, back to yesterday. A woman stopped to ask directions to a certain building. I pointed to where she needed to go and when I did, a pigeon landed on my hand. Her eyes were as big as saucers and she got a horrified look on her face. She started backing up slowly and took of at a brisk clip. I laughed so hard I was in tears.

Well, that's my story. I hope you laughed too. :D

7. Oh yes, so evil even the sparrows like me
Derby says it's like a Disney movie every time I go outside. Birds are flying up to me and even sparrows are in danger of being trod upon. :)

10. Glad to see you, darlin!
Reminds me of a shirt I saw the other day...

Reprehensor and I were at Half Price Books, and this guy had a shirt that said "I have animal magnetism. I walk outside, and squirrels stick to my shirt."

I used to have some little buddies like this at the IRS Service Center years ago. They'd come up and visit me while I was eating and reading my book, and would even come up close enough to take chips and stuff.

:D

14. Hi honey!
Long time no see! We've been missing some FSC and reprehensor. Derby and I were talking just 2 days ago about how we miss you guys. I suggested we call and say, "We're on our way over. Hide the Oompa Loompas!"

Did you see the vid on Olbermann of the seagull who casually walks into a shop every day, steals a bag of chips and goes out and shares the booty with his pals? I love that bird!

I get my way with animals from my mom. They just trust her like they do me.

We should probably have a get together very soon. I just quit my job, and I'm interviewing for jobs that are far far away!

I don't know why, but they call them rats with wings.

They are friendly, nice birds. They aren't the least bit stupid like some people think.
But then, I like rats too.

They shit all over everything and make city dwellers' lives miserable.

But I dare say grackles and starlings are much worse in that regard. What is that kids' book?
"Everybody poops" or something like that.

21. I did laugh, and thank you for caring for pigeons
My husband is at Zale Lipshy in the mornings - I'll ask him if he ever sees them in the area. We have pigeons at our back yard feeder and I do nothing to discourage them - I kind of like having them visit us.

24. At Zale? Really?
I probably see him often. I eat from their cafeteria nearly every day at lunch. I'm in the Sprague building right next to Zale. I'm sure he's seen me outside communing with pidgies. Just tell him I'm the crazy redheaded pigeon lady.

26. We met you and derby378 at Blue Mesa at a DFW meetup a few years ago
He sees patients at Zale in the mornings and then heads back to the research department at Southwestern in the afternoons (at least for a few more days - he's off on a 3-week overseas jaunt on Monday and then starts a job at the VAH in September). :hi:

25. Since they hang around patients all the time
some of whom may be immunocompromised, they draw blood from them twice a year to make sure they don't have some evil disease. They are really healthy.

29. Now that's funny.
Checking pigeon blood isn't something I think of when I think of the CDC.
Pigeons don't hang out in my neighborhood but we do get mourning doves, their skittish cousins.
