1. It's so cold in Chicago that it'd freeze and blow up.
Heading to zero tonight. Today reached a high of about 9 above. Lovely weather we're having.

6. No lake effect snow here.
In fact, barely any snow. I have had bottles of wine blow up on the back porch from the cold, learned my lesson.

13. Pure alcohol does not freeze, but beer is far from pure
and it does indeed freeze, popping tops off and denting ceilings.
Some other things that freeze...
Diet Dr. Pepper cans freeze and shoot across the room.
Coke just shatters the cans... no projectile
Wine turns into a slurry-type icee drink which is quite good.

19. Yeah, lovely weather in Chicago...
However, it is making my not having a refrigerator a lot more tolerable -- stick that 12 pack of 7up on the windowsill, and let it chill (window closed, of course -- it still works :D).

11. If I left beer outside, even in this weather...
...someone would steal it off my front porch.

Then again, I could bury it in the *60 cm* (two feet!!) or so of SNOW... Bleah.

26. that is funny
I was bringing groceries in and could only carry either the ginger ale, or the Canadian. (I live on top of a pool hall/tavern) So....the ginger ale waited for the next trip! I actually reasoned that it had a better chance of still being there...and beer does freeze! A lesson I just learned recently....

14. What I like is that
I can go grocery shopping, put the groceries in the trunk, go somewhere else for a few hours, and the frozen foods will still be fine when I get home!

16. But you lose most of the benefit of a fine beer like Spaten
By drinking it ice cold. Store the swill outside, but for the good stuff, you want a cellar
at about 50 F, that will keep your taste buds thawed and active!
:toast:

23. I'm always amazed
by the number of German beer brands not available in Germany. Outside their town of origin that is.

Well, I'll stick to my Berliner Pilsener ("Du bist so wunderbar Berlin", www.berliner-pilsener.de), even though it's too cold to cool it outside.

PS (FYI "ei" is pronounced like "ai"; "ie" like "ee". :hi:)

24. In college, we used to make 50 gallons of hard cider
and when it got down to -30 below, we' d let it freeze and pour off the good stuff.

Horrible hangovers but it was "wicked good" - and free.

:)

22. Yeah! It's great - also you can throw a case on top of
the luggage rack on the car, and it's cold by the time you get home (well, especially at -20 or more, up to about -40). I also love the ice sculptures - we've got some great artists:

Now, THAT'S a cool bike!
