Condo association meeting today at 4pm.

We're a new building and don't have a majority on the Board yet. But nonetheless, today's meeting is the one where we learn about the rules and accompanying fines for breaking them. This should be fun. I'm o glad I decided not to run for the board. There's over 150 units in the building!

We're both on our second beers just to prepare.

How's your Sunday going?

4. This is our first condo experience.
And the building is brand new, not even a year old. The politics haven't gotten out of hand...yet. But the emails have gotten rather interesting.

Where are you going on your trip? We just got back from the Dominican Republic. Pure paradise.

8. I was a week premature.
Turns out it's next Sunday. The Mr. put it best: "I took a shower for nothin'." We ended up driving around the neighborhood looking at some of the new developments being built.

Have a great time in Florida!

2. Condo Association boards and Church boards--two very thankless jobs.
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 03:25 PM by davsand
Have you ever noticed that frequently those jobs are highly coveted by people who deserve no thanks?

My advice is a large Go-Cup just for the meeting. Lime flavored Gin slushies would a be good choice.

6. I likey your advice.
Unfortunately, I was a week premature. Turns out the meeting is next Sunday.

I recently had a very intense email exchange with one of our representatives. I peppered my emails with the "I realize how difficult this job is and you're doing great...blah, blah". I can't imagine serving a term.

3. I have a book for you to read

We not only lived in a HOA, my husband served on the board for a couple of years. Joni's advice is very common-sense and thoughtful.

The worst thing about HOA's are people who vote in rules they have no intention of obeying, or board members who serve simply to ram through rules that will benefit them personally.

9. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out.
We're first-time home buyers so all of this is quite new. My only complaint so far is that fellow owners are treating this place like an apartment building instead of a condo. Very frustrating.

I'm still undecided whether or not I should run for one of the two remaining spots. Given the emails already exchanged between many of the members that get sent out, I don't think it's worth the headache. Ex: "I saw inchworms outside! We must act immediately to make sure no one brings them into the building on their shoes or with their groceries!" Seriously?

5. Whatever you do
don't get on the board. You won't be taking popcorn the the meetings, you'll need Nodoz or Scotch.

10. There are over 150 units.
A scotch drip would do me just fine!
