I found this really weird looking bug...
Well, 2 bugs I think. They are stuck together back end to back end. They look the same but one is bigger than the other. It might be a kinda of beetle I guess, but there are no pincers or anything on the heads except the eyes...big black eyes surrounded by white circles. The bodies seem hard and they have feet tucked up under.
The bodies are dark with white speckles all over...
Anybody got an idea how I can find out what it is?
Funny, because Last night the kids and I were watching "Men In Black" and you know all those weird animals in that film. The kids are creeped out...
Anybody?
Thanks

1. Box elders, maybe?
And in the case of box elders, "stuck together" means mating. And they do a LOT of it. :P

We had a large number of box elders in our yard a few years ago, and we used hot pepper wax to repel them. It didn't kill them (I wasn't aiming to do that), but we wanted them to go away. :P

4. There's a lot of beetles that mate that way
And when they do, they are like that for HOURS. Don't pity them.

Blister beetles do that, for example. However, they're a kind of burnt-orange color usually.

5. I think that...
I would be a burnt orange color too if I mated for hours.

11. My son found a weird bug
He's three, and he comes up to me with a closed fist telling me he has a ladybug, and I know it probably isn't. It was a really round beetle with, I think, black and white and yellow stripes down it's back. The only thing I could find in my field guide that it resembled was a Colorado Potato Beetle, and we live in Pennsylvania. Of course, I'm not an expert bug identifier, so I could've been wrong. Or maybe we have a ton of Colorado Potato Beetles, and I just never noticed.

13. We just got over a really bad Love Bug season
They were all over the outside walls. If I went out to fill the birdbath, they flew in the water bucket and into the bath. The minute I opened a door, in they would fly, they crept under the front door - and they can sure do a job on car paint if they aren't removed.

14. I'm up in the panhandle of Florida, it usually hits us bad in August/September
For some reason they like to congregate on our porch near the front door. I don't know if it is the paint color, plants, or what, but there they are like 100 little dogs all clamoring to get inside.

The only thing redeeming about the swarm is it's funny to see the tourists deal with them though. Turning on their wipers, filling up on their washer fluid, confused and cursing at these weird tandem bugs.
