Some woman called me 'old' at McDonald's.
I ordered a Happy Meal without a child in tow. So it was obvious it was for myself. I did not want the amount of food in the 'adult' combos so I ordered a Happy Meal.

The girl then said "Aren't you a little old for that?" What? I said "No and I expect a toy."

I got my meal, but there was nothing happy about it. :(

1. She was rude.
There are no age restrictions on the purchase of Happy Meals, so she should have just kept her happy mouth shut.

9. I don't understand age restrictions on menus
what if I only want to eat a little bit of food? Why am I forced to buy food that I don't want to eat just because I'm not under 10 or 12?

13. What if I want something on the senior menu.
Guess I will have say I look good for my age, don't I. No need for ID if I am not ordering an adult beverage. hehe. I should try that. }(

I've heard of a Senior Citizen's Discount, but not a Senior's Menu.

28. ok... it's just that I've never seen one
I just think that in a world where portion size has gone bezerk, if there's a smaller portion available, it should be available to all.

They have an "All-American" meal that's not shown on the menu. A hamburger or cheeseburger, small fries and a small drink. But no toy. ;)

26. The toy is the costliest part of a happy meal
I'm not kidding - there was a tax case in Massachusetts a few years back and when McDonald's showed its cost of a happy meal - I forget the amounts - about half of the total cost was the toy.

34. Complain about it.
I complained about a Burger King a number of years ago, because the restrooms, tables, and floors were dirty, and they were "out" of toys, but were charging the same amount of money for the meal. They sent all kinds of free coupons and a full set of their current line of toys.

37. I've done secret shopping for McDonald's
That remark would probably fail the location based on the criteria we were supposed to judge them by. If you called their customer service number, I'd bet you'd get a little somethin' somethin' for your trouble. Maybe a complimentary Happy Meal? ;-)

49. Definitely complain!
I worked as a Burger King manager once upon a time and we would do anything to keep a customer from being pissed off. It should get you at the very least a free meal and an apology.

Also, a note on children's menus -- McDonald's isn't a children's menu per se so it doesn't apply there but at some restaurants the children's menu prices are actually under priced to lure in families. Sometimes you'll see the caveat "with adult purchase" or something like that. I still think it's ageism but (don't hit me) I also don't think senior discounts are very fair either. I know plenty of "Senior" Boomers who make more money in retirement than I make with two jobs.

Yes, I'm bitter.
