E Bay? Good? Bad?
Good or bad? I am having a difficult time with them over an eight dollar item.

Guess I will not do any thing with them again!

4. Seller, yes.
I have contacted the seller several times. It is an on line company. I have asked for an address and amount of money for shipping, etc. I get an E Mail "We will get back to you in 48 hours" (or so). I get nothing more from them. Meanwhile I keep getting unfriendly E Mail from E Bay. I think they want me to buy more items is all, but it is pressure! Damn buying on the internet!

14. can you post the item #?
Usually there is SOMETHING...SOMEWHERE on the auction page, or on one of his other items that lists the standard shipping amount, or another email address where he/she can be contacted.

6. Wow
So far, I've had only one negative/neutral experience. On a 5 dollar item, the seller appeared to be acting on behalf of a third party doing the actual selling (the seller had one address listed with their regular info, but wanted the MO for this specific item sent not only to another address, but a different state).

Sent the MO via certified mail, and it bounced. When she asked me to resend, I told her no deal. We agreed to not leave any feedback and left it at that.

My problem with eBay is the professional eBayers, so to speak, who use it as a stock market (buy low, sell high). There's no way to beat a determined sniper unless you are willing to go much higher for a max bid than an item is worth. And you can never be sure that some of the sellers aren't asking their friends to help pump the price up.

I've also learned it's a really bad idea to bid on specialized items where the seller says "I don't know much about (item type) I bought this at an estate sale and everything seems to be working. I'll try to answer your questions the best I can."

I think I'd like eBay much better if they engaged in Silent Auctions.

7. Ebay has been good to me
I sell a lot on ebay, and have surprisingly few problems. The only unresolved problem I have had was ordering a bunch of books from someone. The end bid was way lower than I thought it would be, and lower than the seller thought it would be. She sent me an email afterwords saying that she needed the money really bad, and they were worth a lot more. Basically, she implied that I should send her a lot more money because she deserved it. That ain't the way it works! I sent the bid amount, and never received my stuff. She got a bunch of bad feedback afterwords and was kicked off ebay.

But I have had an overwhelmingly positive experience. I'm paying for all of our living expenses while my husband is out of work. A lot of people sell art on ebay, and there is a nice community of artists.

There are some real bad apples out there. Can't believe that guy selling the not for resale drink tickets. What a jerk. People sell the weirdest things. There are a lot of people selling grocery store type coupons which I found odd.

180, what is ebay sending you that is bugging you? As for the bad experience with this the sellers not getting back to you, that really sucks.

There is fraud on ebay. I don't think I would buy electronic equipment or anything over 100 bucks. And there are some amateurs who don't know what the hell they are doing! Even if they have good intentions they can screw you up.

But if you buy from someone who sells a lot of one type of thing, and has a consistent feedback record and many repeat customers, it is pretty safe.

11. A company GKWORLD
is selling the item. They sell video games. The Item my Grandson desired was

the Selda game. I being very uninformed ordered the "Zelda Sound Track"

Which is OK! He will enjoy that also. (We bought the game at a local store.)

I can see now that the seller was simply fishing for new customers.

Now if they would communicate with me I could pay, they could ship.

I could smile, they could smile, little Nate could smile.

And the world would be right.

Sounds so simple!

8. Good for me
I am unemployed and have sold a lot of things lately to supplement my unemployment. It isn't Ebay, per say, but the individual you are dealing with.

9. Drifted away
I went off them for a time after I kept winning auctions only to be told they didin't have the item in stock. And from sellers with supposedly high ratings. Skip them for DVD's. Watching the bids, I can still justify referring to EBay as EBarnum, for a sucker born every minute.

10. My experiences as a buyer have been good overall...
I've had a couple of people who were slow to ship, but otherwise I've been happy with my items.
On the other hand, my brief experience as a seller hasn't been too great. I tried to sell a phone, and the "buyer" never paid for it!

I've had mostly good experiences as a buyer & a seller. I've sold lots of stuff that would otherwise have been collecting dust around the house. But I doubt I'd buy anything fragile or really expensive.

13. About that unfriendly e-mail
Be careful here. THere are a lot of fraudulent e-mails flying around the look like legitimate eBay e-mails. They ask for your ID and password. DO NOT RESPOND. Forward to [email protected]

eBay will not ask you for passwords or ID in an e-mail. This may be what you are getting.

If you have a bad experience with a seller you can leave negative feedback. There is also a fraud report you can do, if you've been ripped off. I've been doing eBay for years and have only had one bad experience.

15. As a seller
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 04:42 PM by scucci
I have to apologize to you for the actions of some unscrupulous sellers. It makes us all look bad and pisses me off to no end. I've never had neutral or neg left because I treat people with respect and don't hound them. I'm so sorry for your bad experience. Please know that most of us are honest and willing to work with anyone for any reason.

That being said, if you can't get through to these people, you do need to report them to Ebay. It doesn't matter if the item is $8 or $1,000. Report them for invalid contact info and let Ebay and or Paypal deal with it. If you still have trouble try calling Ebay @ 888-749-3229. We can't post that number on Ebay's boards without it getting pulled faster than the speed of light. I can't get pink spanked here! LOL

Please let me know if you still have any problems.

16. ebay has been very good to me
I have earned probably ten thousand dollars over the years selling items on eBay. It was much better back in the old days, of course, before you-know-who ruined the economy and Greenspan ruined the interest rates, taking away the disposable income of seniors, who are most of my customers. But I recently picked up about $300 selling items just in July.

I would not quit eBay over an $8 item. You need to report the seller to eBay for not sending you the item or a place to send payment for the item. Then cross that seller off your list, and don't do business with them again.

When buying, I follow these rules:

I would not buy electronics or jewelry on eBay because of the high number of fraudulent sellers. But every sale in those categories is not fraud; I myself have sold items in those categories, although not often because it is hard to get a fair price when you are competing with creeps in the Ukraine who don't plan to actually ship the goods they are advertising.

I also tend to avoid "power sellers" because they are not subject to the same rules as ordinary sellers. If I as an ordinary seller received 3 complaints, I would be off the site, but you can look at some power sellers and they can have 100s of complaints! The "big boys" don't have to play by the same rules. Sigh. It was ever thus.

And I apologize to the honest power sellers out there but at this point it is too difficult to tell the good guys from the bad guys frankly. If a power seller has a perfect or near-perfect feedback record, then it's OK, and I would probably bid, although I might still give preference to another non-power seller if she had the item at the same or only slightly higher price. But it is not enough for a power seller to have 7,000 feedback...click on that sucker, and you may learn that they have 8,500 positives and 1,500 negatives, and you are just playing the odds when you bid on their auctions.

17. EVIL!!!!
;)

One bid, one win, cost of bid $1.50....cost to ship $10.00. Of course you should flame me that I should have read the fine print, but it was my first time, so don't... ;-)
