I got two hours of sleep last night and am keeping myself awake at work by posting on DU.

3. They haven't blocked the sites, but they do monitor usage

once in a while. I figure I will at least get written up before I get fired....

I am moving next week and am super stressed about all the stuff that I still need to pack and DH went away on business all week. My mom is visiting to help, but she is unable to lift, so she helps by doing laundry, etc. I have to do all the packing and it is very overwhelming. I was up until 3 am and had to wake up at 5 to go to work.:grr:

11. That sounds like fun. I used to like to

write (creative and for the school paper) until I was accused of plagiarism in 10th grade and have been unable to move on from it. I wrote a poem for an assignment and while the teacher could never produce the poem I alledgedly copied from, I still had to stand trial at the ad-hoc committee at my school.

It was really horrible.

ideas I have in my head for short stories and poems.

Most of 'em went to the University of Clichés and Positives, though. :eyes:

Then when you do get something juicy, an editor takes it out or changes it because "We don't want to hurt the kids."

I still remember one of my early stories, on a juco basketball game. Coach said to me, "We had the lead down to three or four, and (player) threw the ball away." It came out in print as "We had the lead down to three or four, and we threw the ball away."

23. I haven't had too many issues

with my editor cutting things that may hurt the kids. If it's part of the story and affected the outcome of the game, it should be in print and our editors are usually good with following that rule.

25. The same editor who made that change

also flabbergasted me with the first or second story I ever wrote for a "real" newspaper. It was a pre-season prep football game, and there was no roster available for the visitors.

When I got back to the newsroom and told the sports editor I had no names for the visiting players, he said, "Ah, we'll just make 'em up."

The visiting school wasn't in the paper's coverage area. But, still, I remember thinking something like, "So this is professional journalism."

Haven't seen or heard of him in... christ, 20 years, at least.

He was around for awhile, though. Seems like he became city editor of that paper and held that position for a few years.

His name is very common, so googling would do no good. Maybe he'll pop up at classmates.com. We were friends in high school.
