6. She ran a great race and surged at the end
If the race were longer and there was one more pit stop she could have made a winning adjustment to the car. 3rd is still a great finish and she moved up in the standings substantially due to it.

10. She gets paid by Godaddy.com
Edited on Sun Jun-10-07 03:01 AM by Omphaloskepsis
She is featured on their homepage.. The same page that their CEO posted a link to his blog supporting torture at Gitmo. He has decided to remove all the nasty shit he said. This was a while ago..

See http://www.metafilter.com/42906/Dear-Bob-Im-glad-youre-... for more info. I won't ever do business with them again.

11. Lest we forget.......
Shirley Muldowney was THREE TIME TOP FUEL WORLD CHAMPION!

Driving those "long skinny cars that blow up all the time", to quote our personal friend Lisa.

Her championships were earned in the late 70's and early 80's.

She almost died in an on track accident in Montreal in 1984. Bicycle type front tire left the rim at speed and wrapped around the steering, sending Shirley into soft soil on the side of the track, breaking the car into tiny pieces. Lots of broken bones and one of her feet was hanging on by tendons.

Shirley is now involved with Connie Kalitta's team in a PR role, as she retired from driving in 2005.

Go rent her bio-pic "Heart Like a Wheel" some time. A pretty good movie.
