A 41-year-old Sheboygan man drowned in about a foot of water today after becoming trapped in a sewer while attempting to retrieve his cell phone.

"It was just an everyday event that ended in tragedy," Lt. James Veeser of the Sheboygan Police Department said.

According to Veeser, the incident was reported about 12:35 p.m. near the man's home in the 3200 block of N. 12th St. in Sheboygan.

When police arrived a bystander was attempting to pull the man from a vertical storm drain. The man weighed more than 300 pounds and was trapped head-first.

This should make "News Of The Weird".

1. You never know
That's why I tell everyone that I love that I love them on a daily basis. I don't want there to be any regret as I go.

2. Hm. I've read this story before...
Yes, found it on Snopes, which claims that it really did happen to a man in Detroit in 96. So maybe it's happened again. http://www.snopes.com/horrors/freakish/darwin06.asp

Fisherman Tried to Save Drowning Teen

Updated: Today at 12:08 p.m.

Creedmoor — Scott Blay was fishing Wednesday morning when he said he saw a teenager and a man go into the water at Falls Lake.
The teen was Eddie Allen, a 16-year-old student at Hillside High School. He was on a fishing trip with his mentor, Garrick McCollum, when Allen dropped his cell phone into Falls Lake, authorities said.
McCollum told Allen to forget about the phone, but the teen jumped in after it and began to drown, authorities said.

4. Amazing. A 16-year old drowned here yesterday trying to retrieve HIS cell phone
That's two in 24 hours. Maybe it will replace all the Paris Hilton news.
