Rochester General at 6am. I wish it was Strong -- it's so much closer for us.

He's been suffering for months, and has been through every kind of therapy. He's ready.

I feel a bit overwhelmed, but it could always be worse.

Ordered some Soy supplements and Black Cohosh for the hot flashes. Mr Gen has been so supportive with my crazy menopausal symptoms. It will be a privilege to take care of him for a while.

8. Good Lord.

Had it once myself, will likely need it again...

It's a pity they haven't perfected the artificial disc yet. I miss that mobility already... but he will survive for some time after.

16. I read on the internet they have a new non invasive procedure
but they're not offering it in our area.

They are using the bone bank, so he won't have a secondary surgical recovery from a graft.

I don't think he could be any stiffer -- excuse the pun. So some immobility will be a welcome trade off to the pain and numbness in his arm and fingers.

Thanks, Hypno!

18. What knocked so many vertebrae off kilter?
Or was it severe disc regenerative disease? :(

I'd recommend they whittle off his own bones and go for the scar. When I had mine, it was explained using one's own bone meant a higher chance of fusion; so I opted them to whittle off a piece of my own.

With not two but five vertebrae (removing 4 discs?) being fused, I'm surprised they're doing the bone bank. If the fusion doesn't take place, he'd have to go through it all again. :( :( :(

20. After he had the consultation with the surgeon
and they set up the surgery date, I went directly into research mode. I wonder the very thing. I wish I would have went with him. I could always persuade him to call the surgeon tomorrow, because the rejection is a real concern.

I think it's a combination degenerative disease, arthritis, and strain from lifting at his job. He is a warehouse manager and purchasing agent for an electrical contractor and the company he works for is going under. They fired the workers under my husband that did all the bull work. He's been lifting heavy lift gates off of the back of a delivery truck that normally a much younger truck driver would be doing. :banghead:
