Are there people who think something snarky they posted or typed in an email

Reason I asked is I have two relatives who've sent me very snarky emails in the past. No, snarky is too mild a word. Abusive and venomous would be the right word.

One of them, we have repaired our relationship since then. The other never admitted any wrongdoing and we have no contact.

Last week I saw something on DU that suggested that some people think they can be a total asshole on the Internet, or in emails, and somehow, that just doesn't...count? Like it didn't even happen?

1. I think people click send without thinking.

In spoken conversation they might filter what they say, but they often click send before applying those filters to what they've written.

But only an asshole would think it doesn't count.

2. I have to check myself when I respond

to my freeper fundy MIL because sometimes I can be snarky - She is ALWAYS snarky and abusive, but I try not to let her bait me now.

And no, it is not okay to be snarky in an email. Just because it is not face to face does not mean that it is okay. In fact, it is more easily interpreted as snarkiness when it is in email, so one should be extra careful.
