What's the preferred human diet?
Edited on Wed May-30-07 12:49 PM by seawolf
If the "ideal diet" is oatmeal, barley, brown rice, and something to provide protein, what would various folks prefer?

For me: Yellow rice with lots of spice, burritos or chimichangas, a big lean steak or a nice fat filet of salmon/mahi/tuna/tilefish, broccoli or sweet corn, and a slice of rich chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream to finish it off, accompanied all the way by ice-cold water and skim milk.

Edit: And for the love of God/Science/FSM, don't make this a flame war!!! This is just supposed to be everyone talking about what they like, whether vegan, vegetarian, omnivorous, or carnivorous.

1. Depends on the human, don't you suppose?
This human mostly eats vegetables, fruits and a few dairy products, and meat twice a week at most. (I've no idea what others prefer, nor would I ever presume to impose my dietary preferences upon others. That'd be uncivil. :hi: )

P.S. I haven't had chocolate cake in months. You've inadverently lengthened my shopping list, seawolf. *YUM*

You missed entire food groups, most notably the chocolate group and the fried group.

27. Some are baked
You have to watch out for taco chips, they're sneaky. If you really want to be sure of getting your daily requirement of fried food, you should have the batter-coated kind.

8. Human, slow roasted with light seasonings
That's dinner.

Stomach Contents Puree - that's breakfast.

And sandwiches made from thin slices of buttocks on wheat bread for lunch.

You can jazz it up with some broccoli or a salad. Bon appetit!

Just don't do blood tests. It will probably show results like...

less beer
more greens
less fat
more rest
less salt
more air
less smoking

Well, you get the gist :)

17. I've been vegetarian for 30 years...
...but back in the 70s I didn't have the nutrional knowledge I do now. I believe humans evolved as opportunistic protein eaters, since we don't have claws and teeth that can tear open wildebeast skin. We probably scavenged with the vultures and hyenas, caught small rodents and insects and dying animals for a nice meaty feast.

No matter: only protein and glycogen (sugars) could possibly grow our brains to be as large as they are.

So....come to the conclusion that humans are omnivores, but I still believe that in this era of manufactured, processed, factory-farmed, hormone-and-antibiotic-induced animal flesh we're better off with a diet that's mostly botanical. I eat free-range eggs and organic dairy products, but I think a perfect diet would eskew dairy and be based on fruit, veggies, whole grains and fish.

Seriously, you could probably live forever on that combination.

21. Well, we evolved as hunter-gatherers...
...and significant agriculture may only be about 10,000 years old. We may do best on a diet of roots, nuts, some leaves, and all the meat we can kill (presumably much less meat that we can buy or cram down our throats). Agriculture helped ensure a steady flow of calories, but maybe not the right calories.

Grains are good for us, but we probably haven't evolved to take the greatest advantage of them yet.

Baby Back Ribs (my own personal process and method)
Teriyaki Shrimp Skewers with mushrooms, mulitcolors of peppers and grape tomatoes
Corn on the cob

Potato Salad (Deb's with egg, mayo, mustard and green pepper)

That'll do. It's also what I'm planning for next Sunday.

28. I'm sure you're correct...
Plus a healthy side of MEAT.
Veggies are good for us, but our body doesn't actually break most of them down. That's why ruffage is usually referred to as FIBER. Goes right through us like Corn.
