2. She was walking out during the evening gown portion.
All of a sudden she slipped (on her dress, I think) and fell dead on her ass. She got up and acted like nothing happened. It was dead center on the camera though so I'm sure it will be on youtube in no time.

4. I can't wait - I love stuff like that.
I remember the Miss California pageant (the feeder to the Miss America) was broadcast live here in San Diego a few times, and there were numerous screw-ups. One contestant mangled her answer to a question so badly that she laughed at herself afterwards. One poor contestand was going to dance, and the music started, but she came out and went right back offstage. After a break, she came out again but then halted her dance after a few seconds again. She finally did it on the third try, but obviously it ruined her chances of winning. And there was the famous Michelle Anderson incident, a protest contestant who secretly went all the way through the system, and just before the winner was announced, pulled out a banner from her outfit that read "Pageants Hurt All Women" and was whisked off the stage shouting. She received a lot of coverage in the media.

5. She fell straight back after stepping on her black gown
You've gotta give her credit for being agile and getting to her feet quickly. Not bad considering she's so tall at 5-11. But you could tell she was stunned when they had a close up of her face. It happened at the very beginning of her evening gown walk. After that it appeared she tried to slightly hold the gown while walking and pull it away from her feet, just in case.

Wow, they've got some babes this year. Dark haired beauties.

8. Wow, she made the final 5 despite the fall
I'm watching it delayed in the West, so I don't know the result. But I certainly didn't expect her to advance.

10. I didn't understand that either
There was definitely widespread jeering, once they were about to cut down from the final 5.

Well, my pick came in 3rd, Miss Venezuela. I isolated her from the outset.

Sounds like the horses I used to bet on, 3rd place.

12. I thought Miss Venezuela was a shoe-in.
Surprised she came in 3rd. The winner was very bland with one of the ugliest pageant dresses ever. The way she kept holding up the "wings" of the thing, I thought she was going to take a flying leap off the stage.

15. That's one of the reasons I stopped watching Miss Universe
The final decisions always baffled me. I'd pick out someone and they would advance and it appeared clear cut toward the end, then inevitably she would finish 2nd or 3rd. Same thing tonight, and it's the first time I've watched that pageant in probably a decade. I only became aware of it due to this thread.

It was just the opposite of the Miss USA pageant, where I'd identify someone and the judges typically agreed.

11. Miss Mexico, the crowd favorite (since it was in
Mexico City), got cut from the top 5. Miss USA, despite the fall, made the top 5. I think the crowd was reacting to that. I was hoping they weren't holding the actions of the US government against the contestant from the US. That would suck for her.

A couple of years ago didn't the USA soccer team get heckled when playing in Mexico?

Moreso now, granted, because of politics, but soccer fans don't tiptoe around their dislike of opponents, including their countries, towns, mothers, etc. lol. :P

17. Here's the YouTube clip
There are 4 versions on YouTube currently, but this one looks like the best, showing the remainder of Miss USA's evening gown segment instead of cutting away shortly after she fell:

19. "I'm horny as hell"

Thanks, SoCalDem. There's one great line after another in that clip. I picked one of the tame ones for the subject line.

YouTube has some incredibly talented people uploading videos. I just discovered that in the past week. Previously I was looking at clips of old events that I hadn't seen in years/decades until someone turned me onto the spoofs.
