Immortal - A movie review

I stumbled upon this little gem while randomly searching for fresh sci-fi flicks to watch. It's an oddball- it's a combination of animation and bluescreen that seems to work quite well. There are several recognizable elements within it- Heavy Metal, The Fifth Element, Blade Runner, Sky Captain, Stargate, Final Fantasy- many influences come together to create a visual dream I found to be quite enjoyable.

Of course, the story has its origins within the graphic novel genre, which means the plot leaves a thing or two to be desired- as a delver into the comic book universe my entire life I realize they focus on the visual elements and quite often leave the plot somewhat behind. Not all the questions will be answered, and not all the plot points will finally make sense.

Big deal.

It's a flawed story, but so what? You'll either love it or hate it. If you're the kind of moviegoer who rejected LOTR because it didn't follow the books word for word, you'll possibly reject it. If you're like me, you'll accept the necessity of suspending your disbelief for a while. You'll turn the lights off, sit back, have a toke (I did NOT say that!!) and lose yourself in the movie.

Give it a chance. You'll be glad you did.

Just don't bogart that joint!
