What is the most annoying song of all time?
Edited on Sun May-13-07 06:13 PM by Adenoid_Hynkel
My pick:
"Candy Girl" by Franki Valli and The Four Seasons

I heard it today in the grocery store and thought I was going to poke my eardrums out. Was the point of this group to be as excruciatingly irritating as possible?

So what's your pick? My runner-up is Sisqo's "Thong Song"

2. You mean you like "Walk Like a Man" MORE?!?
You've got to be kidding.

I think the most annoying songs were some of the ones that came out of the mid-70s. Songs where they decided to take a ghost story and set it to bad music. For example: "Angie Baby" by Helen Reddy. YUCK!

Was the group intended to be a joke or something? No one could seriously like that stuff.

Trouble is, I can't tell if the instrument playing during the interlude is a guitar or a synthesizer. If it's a guitar, then somewhere, Jimi Hendrix is very proud.

so much that I immediately wish to take a baseball bat to the radio if the station isn't changed instantly. My college roommates loved the song, thought it was deep or something, and I almost went crazy that year.

I also passionately and completely despise "We Built This City".

I hadn't heard that song until this weekend .I decided to listen to one of the local FM rock stations while driving because I had forgotten my ipod. I have to agree with you. That is the shittiest song ever. It was so banal that I had to keep listening to find out what exactly band it was that had managed to suck that perfectly. It was Nickelback.

31. It's got to be "Dreams of an Everyday Housewife"
by Glen Campbell.

This song makes me hurl.

"She looks in the mirror and stares at the wrinkles that weren't there yesterday
And thinks of the young man that she almost married
What would he think if he saw her this way?

She picks up her apron in little girl-fashion as something comes into her mind
Slowly starts dancing rememb'ring her girlhood
And all of the boys she had waiting in line

Oh, such are the dreams of the everyday housewife
You see ev'rywhere any time of the day
An everyday housewife who gave up the good life for me

The photograph album she takes from the closet and slowly turns the page
And carefully picks up the crumbling flower
The first one he gave her now withered today

She closes her eyes and touches the house dress that suddenly disappears
And just for the moment she's wearing the gown
That broke all their minds back so many years

Oh, such are the dreams of the everyday housewife
You see ev'rywhere any time of the day
An everyday housewife who gave up the good life for me

Oh, such are the dreams of the everyday housewife
You see ev'rywhere any time of the day
An everyday housewife who gave up the good life for me

Oh, such are the dreams of the everyday housewife
FADE
You see ev'rywhere any time of the day"

Who's peekin' out from
Under a stairway
Callin' a name
That's lighter than air?
Who's bendin' down to
Give me a rainbow?
Everyone knows it's Windy.

Who's trippin' down the
Streets of the city
Smilin' at
Everybody she sees?
Who's reachin' out to
Capture a moment?
Everyone knows it's Windy.

And Windy has stormy eyes
That flash at the sound of lies
And Windy has wings to fly
Above the clouds.
Above the clouds.

And Windy has stormy eyes
That flash at the sound of lies
And Windy has wings to fly
Above the clouds.
Above the clouds.

Who's trippin' down the
Streets of the city
Smilin' at

Who's trippin' down the

49. I have a few
My Sharona will always be the worst one for me. It was just done to death.

Irene Cara from Flashdance--was it called, "What a Feeling"? I did enjoy "Maniac" though. (Funny thing, Footloose and Flashdance came out around the same time, and I love almost all the songs from Footloose!)

"You Light Up My Life" by Debi Boone

anything her father sang

the song that the country singer did about 9/11--talk about jingoism and right-wing fanaticism!

almost anything that Garth Brooks recorded

"It's a Small World" is up there very high on the list. I got sick of taking my nieces through the ride at Disneyland because the song was so annoying.

68. And look what I found on the internets....
Singer was:
Dinah Washington - jazz/blues singer of the 50's and early 60's . The name of the song is "Relax Max" She died in 1963 at the of 39 from over an overdose of pills and alcohol,

She's probably best know for the song "What A Difference A Day Makes" (1959) and the duet with Brook Benton " Baby You Got What It Takes" (1960)

Her music is worth checking out!

I agree with this person. That Lady had some good songs!

74. Steve Perry - Oh, Sherrie
The a capella part at the beginning makes my ears bleed. He's screaming this moronic verse:

You should've been gone
Knowing how I made you feel
And I should've been gone
After all your words of steel

It gets worse as his plea for his supermodel girl friend to "hold on" melts her cocained addled heart and she's back with him at the end. And all he had to do was squawk this pablum at her.

At the time, one of my friends was about to make the mistake of his life by marrying this horrible person named "Sherry." I think our group hatred of this song helped shake him out of it and later married a wonderful woman.

85. "God Bless The USA" by Lee Greenwood (R-CA)
Give me Neil Diamond's timeless "America" any ol' day.

Dishonorable mentions:

"The Lady In Red" - Chris DeBurgh
"Heatwave"(RADIO EDIT) - Martha & The Vandellas (Note: This is one of my favorite Motown songs, I just hate the awkward cuts that are so obvious in the version that's normally played on radio. In fact, for some unfathomable reason, Joan Osborne chose this arrangement when she did the live version in "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown." I wanted to strangle her but she easily redeemed herself with a blow-the-rooftop-off performance of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted")
"Puttin' On The Ritz" - Taco (how DARE you try to top Gene Wilder & Peter Boyle???)
"I Wanna Be Rich" - Calloway (?)
"Brown Eyed Girl" - Van Morrison (I DIVE for the tuner button when I hear that opening guitar riff!)
"Believe" - Cher (Save that ridiculous techno voice modulator thingee for someone who CAN'T sing!)
"Theme From Shaft" - Isaac Hayes (The song itself is not annoying; it's that people ignore Ike's body of work and treat him as a one-hit wonder with this overplayed tune)
"Pacman Fever" - does-it-really-matter-who?

When it came out on a 45 RPM record the flipside was the same entire thing, backward! And that, my friends, was the most annoying song of all time.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the dogs barking Jingle Bells. But I like that one except that it scares the cats.

I hate that fucking song. I don't even know who did it and I don't really want to know. The last thing I want to know is who is responsible for that shitripper of a song. I'd probably send them some nasty fan mail and let them know it's time to take the pliers off their balls. Fucking falsetto crap.

107. This is amazing!
When I first saw this thread, the first thing I thought
was "Yummy, yummy, yummy" with the "Ballad of the Green Berets"
as a close second, and then I saw that Adsosletter had posted
exactly the same thing.

By the way, if my info is correct, the whole Bubble Gum project
back in the late sixties was all the same people: the 1910 Fruit
Gum Company, the Ohio Express etc etc were all the same people
just having fun (at our expense).
