It's one of those gorgeous, soft late-spring New England evenings.
Still with a touch of warmth from the day, but with a bit of a breeze ushering in a cool night, perfect for going to bed early with a warm wife.

Days like this are treasures. We've had the ride in the convertible, and the lunch at the Clam Shack (A Redstone family tradition on Mother's Day), and the leisurely drink on the back porch. The Little Guy's in his bath, I don't have any significant pain, and all is well with the world.

I do hope you all had a day such as this one.

1. Today was beautiful
Perfect weather, perfect temperature. We spent it listening to Tibetan monks chanting. Perfect activity.

3. Tibetan monks chanting? Anything like that Tuvan mouth-singing? That stuff is impressive.

6. A little
It's really interesting to listen to. Also, we did some sand painting and learned a little bit about Tibet.

Here's an example of Buddhist monastic chanting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoHxAojUJu8

As it happens, the monks in this video are from the same monastery that the monks we saw today were from. It was destroyed by the Chinese and rebuilt in India, and they have set up a branch here in Indiana.

2. Sounds like a beautiful day.
It's only just after five here, and the weather is incredible. When Mr. LIW gets home from his recording session with a friend, I do believe we'll have that leisurely drink on the back deck too.

4. Do, please. offer one another a toast when you do. Mrs R would KILL to lose me for a day if
it were to record a song; it bothers her even more that it bothers ME that I can't play the guitar or any of my other instruments anymore.

She loved to sit and listen to me practice, miscues and all.

God, I miss being a musician. Treasure your husband for being able to be one.

8. There are a couple of things in Greenfield that we'll be going to this summer...
I cant's remember the specifics right now, but we just got a couple of "summer event guides" in the mail and with the newspaper, and there were some interesting things going on there.

I've promised Mrs R and the Little Guy that we'll do one Family Thing every weekend this summer. And with New England being such a compact place (Northampton, Greenfield, Deerfield, and Brattleboro being within a two-hour drive), I think it'll be easy to fill our schedule.

And we're fortunate that we use so little gasoline during the course of a work week that we can afford to use some more of it for pleasure.

10. Green River Festival maybe?
With the hot air balloons? :D

They always used to land in the field across from my house, hehe...

11. Yes, that's one of them. I'll tell you about the other one when I remember it. And we're going to
the Highlands festival in Northampton, too, to watch them tossing the caber (for myself, I'd rather throw a fit than to throw a telephone pole).

The Pioneer Valley has so much going on during the summer, and is only an hour away from us, that we won't miss anything this year.

(Though it's too bad that Mountain Park is out of business; I bet the Little Guy would love the Wild Mouse, which was always my favorite ride there.)

12. There was a nice PBS documentary about Mountain Park a while back
on WGBH... And Riverside became Six Flags, and so on...

I'm going to try to get back to W. MA more this summer...Flea markets and such, and pleasure rides though all of the dirt backroads I know like the back of my hand. :)

13. I remember going to Riverside for the car races; of course they went away when the park
went Corporate as part of Six Flags. We took our older son and his cousins there in the 1990s when it was Riverside; I don't think we'll EVER take the Little Guy there. We'll stick to going to Lake Compounce and Quassy, and other independent places.

But we haven't taken him to the Forest park zoo yet. I think we should.

14. what about July 4 in Old Deerfield?
I had a delightful Independence Day there a few years ago -- just a sweet, perfect day. And then fireworks in Greenfield at night, although you must park in the right spot to get out of the area before sunup.

15. Haha...Greenfield native here
Lived there from age 4-17, 21-29. And you are SO correct! Parking is key.

I love the Gfld fireworks though, laying on your back on Beacon Field with them booming right over your head...good times. :)

7. We had a beautiful day here too.
All of my children called. My son took me out to lunch. My husband and I had a wonderful afternoon together.
It's lovely outside.

Aaaaaahhhh. Life is good. :)

9. Life needs to be good now and then, doesn't it? That's what keep us going through
the days when it isn't so much so.

I'm happy to hear you had a nice day. You deserve it (as does everyone).
