2. Well, they have to gloss over the bonding with a body count aspect, so they play up the tradition
and appeal to idealized nostalgia. You can't really do that with non-traditional roles- "Take her fishing today because she'll be leaving for grad school sooner than you think" doesn't really evoke the same gauzy sense of better days past. The visual images on the ads often look like color copycats of the opening sequence of The Andy Griffith Show for the same reason.

7. I know they are playing on people's AAWW factor.
But it just hacks me off. The boys are show me how to drive the boat, or our boat is cooler. But the one little girl is My wedding.

8. Oh I know where they are going with it.
But the others for the little boys are show me how to drive the boat, or our boat is cooler, or so I will always have something in common with you. But the one little girl is My wedding. It just bugs me.

18. Well, I'll try and get them some feedback
The point of that commercial, however, is that when a family raises children, and they leave to start a family of their own, the dynamic canges entirely. That's why the reference to a wedding day rather than a graduation. Daddy's little girl is still daddy's little girl in many people's thoughts after graduation, or a job. When she gets married, things change emotionally.

12. The only On-Star commercial that I like is the one where the little girl is standing there...
and she says "Mommy broke the car." I can just hear her saying that to her father once they see him. Makes me chuckle.
